As we are ever mindful of our Centennial year, each meet- ing includes something relevant to Canada. The president therefore opened the meeting with the following thought: -- "Centenary year offers Cana- dians an opportunity to take a good look at themselves and their country, to view them. selves from many angles and to see themselves as others see them". The introduétory hymn was "Lord, speak to me, that 1 may speak". Rev. Teskey led in prayer and Mrs. Sandra Tay- lor. read the Scripture from 1 Corinthians Chap. 10, which was an introduction for the Study that Rev. Teskey had chosen from chap- 3 of a hook "Church meetings that matter" -- The main theme was on improving 'the process of such. The con- > cluding or most impressive thought was a personal relation. ship involvement and sharing in fellowship together. "The roll call was prepared in a sentence for each one. They were from interesting records of Scugog during the past 100 years, as found in the county council minutes of 1867 and an Atlas of 1877. Some examples were: -- (1) June 1867--Your committee that Mr. John Shier be app'td County Engin- eer to this County at a salary of $100. per yr. (2) June 1867-- In order to meet the gov't grants for schools, your comm- ittee finds that it will be ne- INVEST NOW 6% % VICTORIA and GREY _.. TRUST. Guaranteed... (3) 1867--Your committee has also taken into consideration the very large amount for white-washing & cleaning the several offices in the court house. We would recommend that each officer having an of- fice in the court-house keep their own rooms in a clean and orderly manner without any ex pense to the County whatever. Letters or notes of apprecia- tion were received from Rev. F. G. Joblin, Mrs. Grace Love, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Martyn, Attention was drawn to a fact regarding Expo '67. It)in. formed us that Wed., May B1, is the day when United Church Women will be hostesses at the Hospitality Pavilion where visit: tors to Expo will find some rest and quiet and a warm welcome from Canadian women. In the hospital report Mrs. Ruth Heayn, told of the special Easter favours and treats given to the patients. She also re- viewed the various activities planned 'for the year such as the Spring Fair for May 27, Forfeit calendar for autumn and a Centennial 'Ball for Oct. 14. Fourteen items were handed in including many aprons. The committee suggests a few large size bib aprons would be appre- ciated. Mrs. Bonnie Gerrow gave a report for the progress of the Cemetery Renovation. She |boys for 2 years. It is now stated that the previous day 4 necessary for us to find 2 coach- information and see other pion- eer cemeteries that had been restored to a place of beauty and respect. Markham has worked on one each year and have now completed the seven. Bonnie related the information and figures of cost that had been given. We are consider: ing a formation for placing the slab markers in a double line or "cross" formation. We shall require some voluntary help and. hope to start-as-soon as weather permits. It was moved that we give a donation to "Grace" U.C.W. to help with their Centennial pro- ject of installing a practical wash-room. When the program was turn- ed over to the group leader, Mrs. Clara Dowson, she asked Bonnie to give a reading which had been taken from a news- paper of 1883. It described a Garden Party at the Island home of the Adams family but now the home of the 'Gerrow family. While lunch was being pre- pared Bonnie showed a box containing a mystery. She gave 5 clues. Those who guessed its name with the least clues were Mrs. Ruth Heayn & Mrs. Joyce Heayn: It was an antique object called a "pig". If you haven't seen one, you may see one at our show in June. During lunch items of inter- est were passed around, picture of an unique china collection, a book on Centennial quilt patch patterns, old, dress patterns, picture of a spread being made in Whitby in aid of the hospi- tal and the Centennial book of Ontario listing events, celebra- tions and projects, where Scu- gog Twp. had its place.
