~ MEMORIALS PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, April 13th, 1967 SEAGRAVE NEWS Spring is indeed here. first farmer seen out on the land was. as usual, Mr. Ken Wray and he wasn't just pick- ing stones either. On Sunday our oldest citizen Mrs. Clara Sleep celebrated her 90th birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Wilson of Port Perry were dinner guests and in the after- noon other relatives and friends called to wish her well. Mrs. Sleep has spent her entire life in Bethel community having been born in a log cabin on the 12th concession. She is in fair health although suffering from the stiffness of age. Did you see Roy Scott on Sun- day? Many Seagravers were keeping a close watch on the T.V. Vimy Ridge Memorial ser- vice. We were not disappoint- ed. This community was shocked and saddened by hearing of the very sudden death on Friday of Mrs. Murray Short of Cresswell. The funeral was on Monday at McDermott - Panabaker funeral home with interment at Salem. We extend sympathy to her hus- band and young family. On Saturday evening the The Bert Wanamakers entertained about 25 of the younger adults at a euchre in aid of Port Perry Hospital Auxiliary. High lady and gent were Mrs. Ron Wana- maker and Mr. Joe Stone while Mrs, Joe Stone and Mr. Bert Jalasjaa had to be satisfied with consolation prizes. Special prizes went to Mrs. R. Reynolds and Mr. L. Storra. Mr. and Mrs. Wanamaker also entertained Mr. and .Mrs. Walter Webb of Haliburton on Wednesday. Carol Anne Sturman is repay- ing a visit this week by going to be with her cousin Karen Rowan of Bethany. Mrs. Reta Boe spent the week- end with Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Martin in Toronto and while there attended the 25th wedding anniversary. of Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Wilson. We have just survived an ac- tivity week in church circles. First came--a-meeting of the 'MessBhiffer group, then the Of: ficial Board went to Pinedale for the Quarterly Board meet- ing. On Wed. the ladies had. a basement cleaning "bee" in the morning and U.C.W. meeting WES LANE Plumbing - Heating - Electric - OFFICE PORT PERRY, ONT. 985 - 2473 RES. with a presentation in the ev- ening. Thurs. brought choir practice and a S. S. meeting. The U.C.W. was well attend- ed--48 present this time, in- cluding visitors and ex-mem- bers from town and from Little Britain. A rather short busi- ness period came first when members -answered roll call with a household hint. The usual reports were received and letters of thanks read from some who had been ill. Mp. B. Wanamaker reported regarding serving trays: Three = trays have been donated and the la- dies decided to. purchase an additional three. The devotional led by Mrs. Tobin was in charge of Unitl. Those taking part were--Mrs. Nobbs (prayer), Mrs. G. Stone (scripture), Mrs. Harding (topic) Mrs. Tobin and Mrs. Abraham (duet) and Mrs. Chas. Short (Missionary letter). That ended the meeting proper. Then came the event which accounted for the larger attendance. Addi- tional program was provided by Mrs. Fish and Mrs. Fishley giv- ing humorous readings and Mrs Jalasjaa and Mrs. Chas. Short piano instrumentals. There was a short period of confusion while the ladies re- trieved a forgotton corsage from the Tobin frig. but it ar- rived so our elderly friend Mrs. Tait was called to the front, the said corsage adjusted, -f-an---address- read by Mrs. Boe and a presentation made. These gifts from the community were a pole lamp, a clock: T.V. trays and a tablecloth. Mrs. Tait thanked all for remembering her then everybody went down- stairs to eat once more. The S. S. meeting on Thurs. evening was called to arrange for the anniversary to be held on Sunday, May, 28th. There will be one service only at 11 am. with the children's choir providing the music. Guest speaker will be Rev. Allan V. King of Hamilton. Allan is a 3 brother of Mr. Cecil King of G.
