James H. Carnegie received his wings. Later Jim acocmpanied parents for a month's vacation in Flori- da. Port Perry C. of C. (Continued on page 16) R. Wilson, B. Harrison. New Business It was decided that the Cham- ber should start work on a new Brochure for the town. Mr. D. Hillier to head up a committee to look into this matter and pre- sent ideas and prices to the exe- cutive. A newsletter will be sent out each month to the membership with the hope that better infor- med members will appreciate what the Chamber is trying to do. A decision was made on Cen- tennial Decoration for the main street and the Sec'y was instruc- ted to order this material for early installation. It is hoped that the Hydro Commission will see fit to have the decoration street lights on more often than in the past. The Sec'y and T. Griffen to attend next council meeting re- garding a number of items brought to the attention of the Chamber. Centennial 50 - 50 Draw Tic- kets will soon be available from most merchants and it is hoped a good effort by Chamber Mem- bers will help the Centennial Committee to raise the money needed to promote the big day in Port Perry July 1st. Special Speaker At United Church Rev. Harold G. Lester, B.A., B.D., D.D., well known through- out Canada for his contribution to the ministry will be guest speaker at the Port Perry Unit- ed. Church Anniversary service on May 7th, 1967. He is pre- sently superintendent of Home Missions, Bay of Quinte Confer- ence for the United Church of Canada. Dr. Lester has many friends in the Ontario County area, re- sulting from charges at Sea- grave and Lindsay. In 1929, graduating from Mec- Gill University he continued his education at Edinburgh, Scot- land and Strasbourg, France. While studying in Scotland he became part - time assistant minister of Robertson Memorial Parish Church. Returning to Minor Softball Registration has almost been completed for the opening Soft- ball season as a large registra- tion has been received. The following nights have been set aside to start the vari- ous age groups for the choosing of the teams. Monday, May 8th at 6.30 p.m.-- all pee wee players, age 11-13. Monday, May 8th at 8 p.m.-- - Junior ladies players, age 13-18. Tues., May 9th at 6.30 p.m.-- Midget boys, age 15 - 17. Tues., May 9th at 8 p.m.-- "All Junior Players. Wed., May 10th at 6.30 p.m.-- All Bantam Players, age 13 - 15. Thurs., May 11 at 6.30 p.m.-- All Squirt players, age 9 - 11. ; Thurs., May 11 at 8 p.m.-- All Junior players. Trophy will be awarded - for the best floats in the parade in 6 categories. These trophies are being donated by local merch: ants and organizations. They will be suitably inscribed and should make a great memento for the winners on this occa: sion. Well worth putting up the effort of a real good float. If you or your organization are considering putting a float in the parade, please register with the committee in charge-- the Port Perry Legion, c/o Bill Taylor. Booth space at the Fair Grounds can be arranged through the Port Perry Fair Board c/o Mr. F. Honey. Space at the Lakefront should be arranged through the Yacht Club. The above concession space will be offered to local organi- zations first. A limit will be put on the members of similar tynes of booths so that each or- ganization should have a "profit |' able day. Next Centennial Meeting, on Wed.,, May 17th at the Town Offices. Two Ball |- Montreal in 1932, he was or- dained and recommended by the Session of the Church to the Montreal Presbytery. Dr. Lester received his Hon- orary Doctorate of Divinity from Queen's University in May 1966, which is one of the rich- est awards presented to a min- ister. After serving in many varying charges across Canada and also chairmanships on different boards for the United Church. Dr. Lester brings to Port Perry the experience and qualifica- tions which will be most inter- esting to hear. Seagrave Angels Return To Softball Action When the purple and white take to the ball field wars, again this year, this town on the rol- licking hillside of the Nonquon River valley will be at it again, as Don Hurst, along with the Seagrave Softball Assoc. return in full force with entries in both Pee Wee and Novice lea- gue play. Both of these entries will play in the Port Perry Minor Softball League. The old Seagrave "Angels" gave the public both home and away, some wonderful entertainment, and we are hoping again to be able to supply the opposition | for some wonderful moments on the field of play.
