The threetler By Olga Hill Cartwright Centennial cele- bration June 28th was a real success. The weather was perfect. A much larger crowd than. anticipated by thie committee making plans gathered and all appeared to be thoroughly enjoying them- selves. From 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. "races, games and contests by School children, planned and supervised by the different teachers kept all watching closely. ~ The wonderful Barbecue supper eaten in the Park, with some visiting after and others viewing the ball games on the Agricultural grounds. This was followed with sport activities for the older folk, as wood chopping, which was won by Vernon (Butch) Mal- colm; Nail Driving--won by Tem Horton; Patch sewing-- won by Mr. and Mrs. Peter Snaith; Shoe kicking won by Check The Label --sOn Your Paper Mrs. Elaine Whippel; couple carrying won by Miss Mary Frey and Alan Asselstine. Following this was a lovely display of fireworks, then a bonfire when a teepee was burned. . By this time the Bill Back: well Orchestra from Oshawa was providing music for dan- cing in the Recreation Centre and the "Rather in the Wild Side" orchestra from Cour- tice were plaging for the "Jet Set" on the Park. About the biggest attrac- tion was the mammoth 3 story Birthday Cake with the emblems of all the Provinces, the wording "Happy Birth- day Canada", and coloured lights all around each story, which were particularly at. tractive after dark. The chief Public Health Inspector will receive an increase from $8,- 000 to $8,350 effective April 1st. A new position of mainten- ance and messenger man was added to the salary schedule of the homes for the aged with a salary starting at $4,512 and $4,992 after one year. A new salary schedule for miscellaneous positions cov- ering the maintenance staff of the County building was approved including an in- crease of 5 per cent. County building personnel in office positions also re- ceived a 5 per cent wage in- crease. Increase In Salary Rate The clerk of the Juvenile and Family Court for Osha- wa and Ontario County re- ceived a salary increase from $8,388 to $8,598 effective Jan. 1, 1967. The increase has already been approved by Oshawa City Council. The eputy Clerk will receive an fora from $6,006 to $6,- 164 per annum effective July 4 this year. Roads department person- nel of the county also recei- ved a 5 per cent wage in- crease, Council adopted a. recom- mendation that Monday, July 3, be a holiday for all county employees. Council authorized the coun- ty treasurer to provide pay- able deductions for employ- ees wishing to purchase Can- ada Savings Bonds. A move towards county- fare has been deferred for further study by the Ontario County Council. " The standing committee on county matters recommended: that the administration of welfare be established on a county-wide basis effective' Jan. 1st, 1968. The committee presented ¢ | council with statistical data from all municipalities in the wide administration of wel- County Welfare Deferred county and reported that in 1966 a total of 630 persons had received welfare totall- ing $194,847.72 in all the municipalities within the county and that the munici- pal share of the payments ons § % 'had been $38,969.54. The committee suggested that under a county-wide sys- tem the total cost to the mu- nicipalities would be $53,519 after paying a welfare ad- ministrator and three field workers bly expenses.
