One of these had just been lit by volunteer Fire Captain Jack Raymond Cook when it exploded prematurely, hitt- ing him in the left hand. Jack, who lives at'129 John Street in Port Perry, and a car mechanic by trade, was taken to Oshawa General Hospital - where emergency surgery was performed to amputate the index finger] Centre, a team of doctors, and generally repair the in- jured left hand. He has received special training in fire fight- ing, resuscitation and rescue work and has been a volun- teer fire captain for two years. On leave from the Centre over the long holiday week- end, Jack Cook took in a round of golf, and although an accurate score was not kept, the hand showed more mobility and less swelling than before. Redman was in Hamilton attending the Senior Citizen's Convention.
