Seagrave News Our village was saddened to hear of the death on Tues. Aug. 22nd of Mrs. Viola Tait. Mrs. Tait, a resident of Sea- grave until last spring, pass ed away quietly in Port Perry Hospital after a long illness. The funeral service on Thurs. was conducted by Rev. E. McNeil at the McDermott- Panabaker chapel and burial was in Pine Grove cemetery. We extend sympathy to her son, daughter and other re- latives. On Sat, at a quiet cere- mony conducted by Rev. Alec Rice, Mrs. Jean Drinkwater became the wife of Mr. Ross Short of Port Perry. Their attendants were Mr. Rae Short, cousin of the groom and Mrs. John Groves, sister of the bride. Later in the afternoon a reception and wedding dinner took place in Seagrave church where about 60 relatives from the Short and Stone families had ga- thered to wish them well. The couple will reside at the Short home on Major St. Port Perry. Unless a suitable new home can be found at once, Mr. & Mrs. J. S. MacFarlane have about decided to remain in the farm home for the win- ter. The MacFarlane sale is to be held Sept. 7th and Sea- grave ladies will be on hand to serve refreshments. Mr. and Mrs. W. Willough- by and Paul of King City vi- sited with the Bert Wana- makers on Tues. Then over the week-end Mr. and Mrs. Wanamaker journeyed to Haliburton to be with their friends Mr. and Mrs. Webb. On Tues. the same two coupl- les teamed up for a visit to the Ex. Our latest holidayers are Mr. and Mrs. Jack MacTag- gart and Mrs. Pearl Thomp- son who are occupying a cot- tage in the lakes district for a week. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rowan, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rowan and their children Karen and Brian of Bethany spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Sturman. The Board of Stewards met on Wed. evening to thresh out the pros and cons of our diamond-jubilee thank-offer- ing-anniversary to be held the last Sunday of Sept. In- vitations will be sent former members and everyone will be invited to remain after morning service for a social hour. The date for the S.S. Rally has been changed to Sept. 17 because our speaker for the day, Mr. Terry Hodgins of Prince Albert was not avail- able for Sept. 10th. Juniors proved on Saturday night that a little desire can go a long way as they defeated a strong Madoc team 54 at the park. Tripp's were severely beaten in Madoc last Tues: day night but Saturday night they put on perhaps the best game of the season as they backed up Steve Foster's steady pitching effort. Tripp's will play the third game of the series in Madoc and with this type of effort they could pull an upset. * * * Ballard Lumber Midgets won right in Hastings on Sat. night as they defeated Nor- wood 6-4. Zone 4 finals with Local Ball Teams On Winning Spree a 17-9 win in Cobourg. Laurie Williams pitched good ball for the loéal lads who showed great power at bat. Jim | loved to work with the kids _| and always did a great job in coaching several teams each year. For a man who never played the game he did a great deal for softball. Senior Citizens By Mrs. E. Redman The last Euchre held at the Hall was very successful, 17 tables were played at on Sat. 19th August. Holidays will soon be over and the next meeting for members will be on Wed., Sept. 13th at 2 p.m. We are hoping to see a large number attend. Please keep in mind meetings are held at the Hall every second and fourth Wed. of each month (barring July and August). Convention is to be held at Hamilton this year at Mec- Master University. Mr. and Mrs. E. Healy are the two delegates chosen from Port Perry, Mrs. M. Cullen and Mrs. T. Redman will be go- ing with them by car and will register on Monday there Aug. 28th and will return home on Friday. About 500 attended from different pla- ces and is very instructive to all those interested in Senior Citizens. Resolutions are sent in from most of the Clubs attending. This is the 9th year for these gatherings. We hope one and all have enjoyed good health and jj nice holidays. Shall be look- ing forward to the next meet- ing to visit with everyone again. Time passes so quick- ly, particularly for us folks in older years. We hope some bus trips will be plann- ed for the near future, before the cold weather sets in.
