Ten members and two vi- sitors attended the Candace unit at the home of Mrs. Marwood McKee Thursday morning. Leader Mrs. W. Mahaffy opened meeting. Mrs. Ross Duff conducting the worship read the Scrip- ture passage, Romans 12, af- ter the singing of a hymn. Mrs. Ken Lee gave a paper on "International Good Will". A playlett--"Didn't you mean what you said?" was present- ed by Mrs. Lee. Mrs. Ralph Larmer and Mrs. Duff. This was followed by an interest- ing and thought provoking discussion and prayer. Mrs. Joe Bradburn was hostess for the 8 members & 3 visitors who attended the Dorcas unit meeting Wednes- day afternoon. Mrs. C. Hill opened meeting with a poem "Falling Leaves and prayer. A hymn was sung. Mrs. Wal- ter Wright gave the worship reading Romans 12. 3-5 and a meditation on "A Personal Assessment". Mrs. Hill read a poem "The Right Direc- tion". Mrs. Stanford Van Camp dealt with the 4th chapter of Study Book - "Into a Nation" -- The Church and Education -- following busi- ness meeting closed with hymn and Benediction. Wednesday evening Mrs. Ivan Mountjoy was hostess for the Esther Unit. Leader Mrs. Arnold Taylor opened 'the meeting with readings from "The Sound of her Whistle" by John Craig. This book tells the story of steam navigators on the Kawartha Lakes and the Valley of the Trent in Central Ontario. The devotional and program were in charge of Mrs. Har- old McLaughlin and Mrs. 'Merrill Van Camp. Follow- NEWS ing worship they presented a playlet on Religion in India followed by an interesting discussion period. Plans for the Presbyterian 'Regional Rally which is to be held in Blackstock October 30th, also the Redediction of Church Nov. 12th were dealt with at all units. The October meeting of the Thursday Anglican Guild of St. John's Church met at the home of Mrs. Chas. Fee, with 11 present. Hostess led a short Devotional with hymn in unison. Plans were made for chicken pie supper. Meet- ing divided into two groups for discussion on ways the church could help in the community. Mrs. Lawrence McLaughlin gave a report of the Inauguration of the A.C.W. in Toronto Oct. 2nd. Next meeting will be at Mrs. Harold Hamilton's home. Meeting closed followed by lunch. Mrs. J. Lawrence presided at the meeting of the A.C.W. in the Parish Hall Thursday evening, Oct. 19th. Mrs. G. Domeral was pianist for the hymn. Mrs. P. Graham led the Devotional and read an article regarding the poverty and protection of sacred ani- mals in India. Mrs. H. Thanks were expressed to Mrs. Carter, a former mem- ber who now lives in Bow- manville for goods sent and to Mrs. Austin Beacock for binding quilts. Reports were given by the delegate to the Inauguration of the A.CW. in Toronto, Oct. 2nd and by the Presi: dent regarding the progress of our cook book, which will soon be ready for sale. Announcement was made of the Fall Deanery, which is to be held in Ajax October 25th. A short discussion took place regarding plans for the October 27th supper and catering Nov. 4th. Mrs. F. Staniland and Mrs. H. Bailey served a delicious lunch to all present. Mr. Harvey Graham was the congenial M.C. who after welcoming all invited the bride and groom to seats on the platform while Mrs. Gor- don Strong played the wed- ding march. During the pro- gramme, piano solos were rendered by Marie VanCamp, Gordon Malcolm, and Linda Mountjoy. Mrs. Marwood McKee read "Because"; Messrs. Glen Larmer and Stuart Dorrell and little Miss Anne Dorrell sang "Eagle Eyes" and "Climb Every Mountain" and later Stuart and Glenn sang an amusing parady on the Bride and Groom. The M.C. congratulated and expressed the good wishes of community to the happy couple and welcomed the bride before presenting them with a coffee table, two end tables and miscellaneous gifts. Both expressed appre- ciation. Following lunch dancing to music by Scugog Orchestra was enjoyed. At service in the United Church Sunday morning, the choir sang the Anthem "God Bless our Native Land". Rev. P. Romeril chose as the theme for his sermon--*"The Lonely Child". The Sacrament of Baptism was administered to Cather- ine Lee Anne, chosen daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Paisley; Diana Lynn, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fletcher; and Jenenne Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Strong and Steven John, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Medd. A good attendance was also present in St. John's Church. Rev. R. C. Rose de- livered a sermon on The Epistle of James.
