Dowson On Saturday, November 11, "Simcoe Street United Church Oshawa was the setting, when Janet Rose, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rae C. McMaster, Oshawa, became the bride of James Irvin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph I. Dowson, Scu- gog Island. The Reverend John F. G. Morris of St. Andrew's Unit- ed Church performed the double ring ceremony and the wedding music was play- ed by R. G. Geen. The bride eatered on the arm of her father, wearing a full-length, sleeveless sheath gown of rose-patterned, white cut velvet with empire waist and rounded neckline, topped with matching full - length - ELECTRICAL coat which flowed into a short train. The French sleeves were accented by a flat how on each shoulder. A jewelled crown held a four- tier elbow length veil of silk illusion and she carried a bouquet of pink sweetheart roces and white glamellias. The matron of honour was Mrs. Robert Cooper and bridesmaid Miss Ina McMas- ter, sister of the bride, wear- ing identical gowns of floor- length empire waisted, scoop- ed neckline, long sleeves, red velvet top, with pink chiffon over taffeta straight cut skirts. Peter Hood of Scugog Is- land acted as best man, and Kenneth Wilson of Seugog and Kenneth Dowson, Port Perry were ushers. The groom and his attendants were identically attired in i |black tuxedos. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Ade- laide House. Mr. and Mrs. McMaster received their guests with the assistance of Mr. and Mrs. Dowson. The bride's mother wore matehing dress and coat of Shrimp pink with Ivory and gold brocade decign. Ivorv & gold cloche hat and match- ing shrimp shoes. Her cor- sage was vellow rose buds. The bridegroom's mother chose blue and silver bro- cade, with matching jacket and hat. Her corsage was pink rose buds and maiden hair fern. Later the happv couple left on their honevmoon for Nia- gara Walls amid showers of confetti and good wishes, the bride wearing a rust-toned suit, a-blonde-beige mink hat and matching suede coat, brown patent leather acces- sories and a corsage of yellow feathered carnations. Gnests were present at the wedding from Oshawa, Port Perrv. Blackwater, Seagrave and Cleveland Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Dowson reside at 400 Grenfell St. Oshawa. * ® ® Folowing the rehearsal on Fridav evening, the bridal party were entertained at the home of the bridgeroom's parents, Scugog Island. Prior to her wedding the bride-elert was honoured at several pre-nuptial parties. The female emplovees of Central Mortgage and Hous- ing Corporation held a Mis- cellaneous shower at the home of Miss Linda Peters, Ping" Ave., O<hawa. The bridegroom's aunt, Mrs. Myrtle Manns arranged a miscellaneous shower at her home for neighbors and friends of the bridegroom. She was assisted by her daughters Beverley and Mrs. Norman Tripp. Mrs. Betty Collins, the bridegroom's aunt hosted a linen shower, assisted by her daughter Joyce. In attend- ance were relatives and friends of the bridegroom. Mrs. David Russell & Miss Jeanne Russell La Salle Ave., held a miscellaneous shower for neighbors of the bride. The Scugog Island Com- munity honored the bride & groom with gifts consisting of a china cabinet, hostess chair, hammered aluminum tray and two corning ware | casseroles with cradle.
