PORT PERRY * STAR % SORTS What a way to start Minor llockey Week in Canada. The Tournament got' off the ground at 8 a.m. Sat., Jan. 20 and ran smooth as silk -all day. without a hitch. This was due to the great jobs done by Tournament Com. mittee headed by Grant " Campbell and Don Cochrane: Don also organized the re- fereeing for the 10 games. Don Bronson was in charge -of the men who were assign- ed to each team for the day. Their job being to assist the visiting teams to dressing rooms and check their equip- ment and guide the team to according to schedule. We must mention . here also about the great job done by the Scout Mothers who catered, along with the help of some of the Hoc- key mothers in feeding some 180 plavers and coaches in shifts of 2 teams every hour from 10.30 - 1.30, till every: one had their turkey dinner. At this point we take hats off to Joe Waldinsperger & Maurice Jeffery who were in charge of procuring the food for the dinner which was donated by Chalet Farms, Ross & Marg's Carload Gro- ceteria, Chas. Bourgeois, Fla- the Scout Hall to eat. Due to the effort's of Stuart Mec- Quade, Ivan Hawes, Bruce McCoy, Clare Nightingale, Bob Parker, Larry Best and Murray Lee, everything went ™ mingo Pastries and Ideal Dairy. Minor Hockey is indeed fortunate to have so many good workers in. the organ- ization and so many eager A Lucky And Happy Boy No young hockey player could be more happy than Kevin Willis was on Saturday night. Dick Gamble, who operates a hockey school in Bowmanville, sponsored a Pee Wee Tournament in the Arena on Saturday and also donated a week of free hockey training at his school, for one of the High Single-- Pee Wee Tournament Great Success Boost] people, to help us Minor Hockey in Port Perry. Don't forget a full sched- ule of games in the House Leagué, Sat. Jan. 27th as usual and T.V. draw 4.30. PEE WEE TOURNAMENT 1st 'game of the day Ux- bridge came out strong and with the help of their big star "Tommy Newton getting 4 of their 5 goals, downed | Port Perry Legion all stars 5.2. The Flamingos had just previously lost a close 4-3 de- cision on Saturday night to the Sunderland Harvesters, a game ~ where they showed plenty of spirit and good hockey, and with a break or two could have won just as easy.
