oer oh | ep iF 12 - PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, January 25, 1968 Again we are short of per- sonal items, Did nobody visjt or have visitors last week? Here are the few we have: Mr. and Mrs. Harold Moon and little Corinna of Toronto - were with the Aubrey Moons over the week-end. Also from Toronto camé Mr. and Mrs. E. Dregar for their regular visit with Mr. F. Watson. On' Sunday Miss Marilyn McMillan entertained her room-mate from. Toronto, Miss Celine Lacosse who "hails from Shawinigan Falls. P.Q.. Several families from the neighbourhood - attended the funeral of the late Mrs. Jas. Harding in Lindsay on Wed- nesday. Mr. and Mrs. Grant Butt ¢-arid family of Whitby spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. F Butt. The newly formed group 1 'of U.C.W. met at the home of Mrs. Lawrence Nicholls on Mon. evening. There were 10 members present. Leaders for the group this vear are Mrs. McNeil and Mrs. Nic- holls with Mrs. Belair sec'y- Seagrave treas. * This unit are looking forward to having a Christ- mas bazaar and will be work- ing toward that with a sew- ing meeting 'each month. The annual congregational meeting took place on Thurs. cvening as announced and closely followed the usual pattern excent that it finish. ed about an hour earlier than usual, Some of the talkers were absent but 13 men and |: 13 women were present and as alwavs happens here the men did 789 of the talkinc. Mr. Harris presided over the. meeting and Mrs. B: Wanamaker filled the secre- tarv's spot quite adequately. After the opening .praver bv Mr. Harris a silence was ohserved in memory of Mrs. V. Tait, Mrs. E. Grose and Mr. Gordon Colwell. The usual reports were re- ceived and from the various financial statements it was apparent that "Making Ends Meet" is not the greatest problem of our church. = All departments reported com- fortable "balances. Usually the retiring mem- bers of the board. of Stew- ards are re-elected. Not so this time -- they really did relire.' Alvin Bruce has of course moved away. Glenn |" Wanamaker was promoted to the session and Bill Kcen, believe it or not, just retired --for the present at least. Tt is hard to imagine our church hoard without those three. Tn their place were clected four new members--Messrs. Bill Barr, Gord. McMillan, Jack Short & Gerald Sedore. Glenn Wanamaker remains as treasurer, Mrs. Belair as envelope secretary and Mrs, "Tohin as organist. Looking 'well ahead we claim the last Sunday in Sept. for the Thank-offefing service and the first Wed- nesday in Nov. for the an- nual turkey dinner. The familiar hassle regard: ing the printing in the an: nual reports of the names & amounts of individual sub- scriptions wa$ gone over once again with the usual argu- ments pro_and con. After much discussion it was de- cided we could forego the pleasures of comparison this year $0 no names, numbers nor amounts will be printed. This may mean that members will need 'te keep an account of their givings or contact the secretary as the board can hardly expect to be given that information. for the cvery-member canvass when ordinary members are denied it. On Sunday morning flow- 'ers were placed in the church in memory of the late Mrs. Jas. Harding... -A part of the service was the presentation of awards to the faithful children of the Young Wor- shiper's League. This year only 5 qualified. They were Ronald; Raymond and Joanne 'Nobbs and Catharine and Calvin Nicholls. Mr. Wm. Wanamaker, our newest S. S. superintendent was in charge this week and did all the right things at the right- times. Program num- ber was by a primary class of 'boys and girls who sang "Jesus Loves Me."
