Catton The inaugural meeting of the Council of the Corp. of the Township of Reach was held in the Township office _ at Manchester on Modday, January 8th at 11 a.m, Members present were the 'Reeve, Edward Oyler, depu- ty-reeve, Chester Geer and councillors, Mrs. Lucille Gray Allan Bertrand and Arthur - Catton, and special guest, Rev. Wm. Black of Port Perry. The members of council subscribed to their oath of office in unison. The clerk congratulated the council on their election and acclamat- fon to their offices. The Reeve. then took over the meeting, and requested Rev. Black to conduct the de- votional service. It was moved that the petition for the Statuary Grants under the provisions of the High- way Improvement Act be made and that the clerk and rosd <unt. make out the re- quired declaration to be for- warded to the Department of Highways. The road supt. was asked to have a survey put on several stretches of roads in the township for further discussion. The meeting adjourned. We did not get the news in because of poor weather and roads one week ago. The sympathy of the com- munity is condo the Hubbard family in the pass- ing of Mr. Ben Hubbard of Bowmanville who formerly lived here in the village. He worked for the C.P.R. before retirement, also helped farm- ers in threshing time, a good workman who would do an extra good day's work and his charges would be no more than normal.
