Miss Islay Hiscox reported 'as ill in last week's news as taken to Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay Thurs- Her _ condition-is said to be unchanged. Another old friend Mr. S. J. (Stan) Wooldridge, Little Britain, has been in Lindsay Hospital too.. He was under- going surgery and is now in Peterboro Hospital where he will be near his doctor. News of the death of Mrs. Goodale in Hamilton last week was quickly followed by word that another former citizen Mr.. Sam Netley had passed away. Mr. Netley came here as a lad and grew up in the community but. has lived in Brighton many years now. Greenbank and Seagrave were about equally repre- sented at the "Women's World Day of Prayer meet: ing on Friday. Mrs. A. Ni- cholls of Little Britain was guest speaker and didn't dis- appoint us. Mr. and Mrs. Claire Watts entertained---Mr. - and Mrs. Jack Wooldridge and daugh- ters of Toronto and Miss Lynda Lamb of Valentia dur- ing the week-end. Strangely enough the Au- brey Moons didn't have any week-end visitors but they did have Mr. and Mrs. Jim Elliott of Oshawa there on Tuesday. 3rd. As Mrs. Hal. lett is getting the junior choir. organized, she may need suitable music. Mr. Paul Espie has again been hired as caretaker 'at the same salary as for '67. With the junior choir in attend- ance now, the board asked that the Young Worshippers League be continued. The two ushers, Glenn Wanamaker and Wm. Keen, who have been so faithful for years are no longer mem- bers of the board so the Ste- wards - thought they should take on that duty. Members will please consult the bulle- tin board to find when they should act, Messrs. Lawrence Nichalls, Ken Sturman, Doug McMill- an and Jack Short are going to make another attempt to keep the' basement floor dry. The World Day PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, March 7th, 1968 -- 13 Of Prayer Held In United Church The World -Day of Prayer was observed in Port Perry with a community service in the United Church, Friday, March 1st, at 3 p.m., with an attendance of ninety-three. Mrs. Sam Cawker" led the service, and Mrs, Philip Ro- meril, of Blackstock, was the guest speaker, the theme be. ing, "Bear one another's burdens". The speaker was introduced by Mrs. ~ Merlin Dowson. ) The soloist Mrs. Wm. Sharpe sang beautifully, "Cast Thy Burdens", accom: panied by the organist Mrs. Donald Forder. Representatives from many churches ~ attended. Five churches shared in the in- terest and responsibility in. volved in conducting the ser- vice. The Ladies taking part were: Mrs, Gordon Morrow and Mrs. Agnes Garvey (An- glican), Mrs: "Louise Patter- s0n, MF. Wm. Black and Mrs. Aleta MacFarlane (St. John's Presbyterian), Mrs. Ted Kroes (Catholic), and Mrs. Harold Holtby (Prince Albert). Mrs. Thos. "Cullen and Mrs. Grant McDermott wel- comed those attending and handed out the "Service" sheets. The offering was received by Mrs. Murray Williams, Mrs. Orr Jeffrey, Mrs. Len. Beadle, and Miss Alice Dodd. "At the close of the Ser- vice, Mrs. Roy Cornish ex- pressed apreciation to "the speaker,. the soloist, the or- ganist- and to all who. had taken part in the Service. This year's theme was prepared---and--written --by | Mrs. Rathie Selvaratnam of Ceylon, chairman of the Asian Church Women's Con- ference. Each year a wo- man from a different coun- try prepares the- Service. The Prayers are translated into a hundred languages & dialects, even in Braille, and these Services are held in churches around the world. All who have had the pri- vilege of participating in a World Day of Prayer. Service have found it a "richly re- warding experience, in the warm personal - friendships made, the unity of aim, and deep joy .of accomplishment. In Unity there is strength and Christian Unity is need- ed now, as never before. In Unity dwells the hope: for "Peace on Earth", and good- will among all men.
