Mrs. J. J. Gibson is seen wearing a wolf pelt she and her husband won at a spot dance during the Winter Fur Carnival Ball in North Bay last week end. A popular attire for men in that northern city during the Carnival is a mink tie, and after quite some struggle Mr. Gibson was able to procure one. This is an annual event, and goes on for three full days; Xhis year Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 1, 2, 3. The two raved about the wonderful arrangement and the generous hospitality in _- North Bay, "Gateway to the North", and are ready to-go back again next year. The programme starts with the crowning of the fur queen, this year performed by Premier John Robarts. Of many other events are Sled Dog Derby, Ice Fishing Contest, Log Sawing Contést, Snowshoe races, etc. The streets are crowded day and night with people from the city and the area around, and the Carnival has become the great event of the year for the residents. lof Port Perry held. in the Wedding invitations in the best of taste Printed ments of your happy event are always distinctive _ When you come to us, you know what real fine printing is . . . no matter what it's for . . . our imaginative staff can create the type of printing to give OFFSET LETTERPRESS COLOR Port Perry Star .|reviewed at the regular Com- '| required | that the board whart at the | areas: & recommending that Port Perry TOWN COUNCIL g Minutes of a regular meet-| ing of Council of the Village Municipal Office on Tuesday February 27th. : Council decided that a summons be issued for park: ing. tickets which are- not paid for within 48 hours. Such was ~ the description of 'a minister given by Rev. Dr, R. W. Henderson, Associate Secretary, General Council, United Church of Canada spoke .to Lindsay Presbyterymeeting at Cam- bridge Street United Church, Lindsay, on Wednesday, Feb- ruary 21, 1968. 3 "The United Church has assigned the episcopal func- tion to the minister" said Dr. Henderson prior to group discussions on the import- 'ance and place of bishops in the Church! In the group discussions that followed Dr. Hender- son's opening remarks one of the main findings was that the role of the minister is changing. Other findings were that the change results from the fact that the church is. becoming more democra. tic as laymen, by training, RA 2 / / knowledge and experience, are increasingly better' able to give leadership in some areas of the Church's life and work than the minister. Increasing numbers of lay- men, due to a higher level of education * among the population in general, have a broader outlook and are better able to hold stronger informed opinions than was once the case. Delegating responsibility to others in some fields and no longer expected to be every- thing to everyone, or an au- thority on all subjects, the minister is yet looked upon as qne to start movements and to visit the sick, aged and shutins etc. Rev. J. Newton Reed, Sunderland, informed. the court that there were some four hun- dred less pupils in the Sun- day Church Schools of Pres- bytery in 1067 than there ed yellow was the school Mrs. Shunk went to, and was destroyed by fire on her birthday in J9%0. A decreased attendance at Sunday Church Schools -and at through-the- week group meetings was also_noted. Rev. J. Gertridge, Lindsay, said that three hundred and fifty young people were ex-! pected to attend an April Hi-C Teen Conference in; Lindsay, ; That there would be a ga-: thering in Haliburton in June to discuss the nature of evengelism was announced by Rev. R. A. McCaw, Hali- burton. : Presbytery was "also told by Rev. W. J. Price that dur- ing the year five new month- ly magazines will replace the present weekly papers such as the Onward. Rev. G.' A.
