---- - PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, March 21st, 1968 Be ADLave We can't remember being called upon to offer sym- pathy to three local families in three consecutive weeks but it has happened now. Last week the Sweetman family were bercaved by the passing on Tuesday of Mrs. Mary Armstrong, mother of Mrs. G. Sweetman at Fair- view Lodge, Whitby. Funeral services were in Port Perry on Thursday with interment in Groveside Cemetery in Brooklin. Flowers were placed in the church on Sunday in memory of Mrs. Armstrong and also Miss Islay Hiscox whose funeral was on Wed- nesday. It is good to be able to report that our other hos- pital patient, Mrs. M. Stone was well enough to return to her home on Sunday. led by. Mrs. Boe. Spring season diseases are reported among the young fry. Raymond Nobbs has the measles and Cathie Carr has the chicken pox. There may be others too. Although some of the most faithful members were snowed in, 25 ladies turned out for the U.C.W. meeting last Wednesday evening. The devotional part of the meet- ing in charge of Unit 2 was Mrs. B. Wanamaker substituted for Mrs. Nodwell who could not be present and read a topic entitled, "The Stewardship of Church Women". --Other items were the bible reading by Mrs. Nobbs, prayer by Mrs. Keen, a duet -by Mrs. Barr and Mrs. Nobbs and a reading by Mrs. Clements. Just a month ago the lad- ies discussed whether they could afford another piano or another stove for the basement. Another committee has been counting' dishes and has ordered enough replace- ments to keep all the dining tables going. The annual Spring Tea & Bazaar will be held on Sat- urday, April 27 from 2.30 to 5 p.m. Committees are hard at work here too. It was de- cided to encourage the new- ly formed Brownie Pack by giving them a $10 donation and by allowing them to have a cookie booth at the tea. Seagrave ladies will be responsible for the Tiny Tot booth at the Hsp Spring Fair. The U.C.W. along with ladies of the other congreg- ations are sponsoring a spec- ial missionary Sunday in April when Rev. Gunther on furlough from Japan will be the speaker. This - is holiday week so Bill. Wanamaker is at home to tend store. Can you blame the grocer and his wife for taking a few days away from home at the first of the week? 1 Perhaps Mr. McNeil and' Mrs. Espie didn't entertain any ill-will towards each oth- er but it didn't look that way when they bumped to- gether in Tuesday's: storm. Fortunately the only damage was to the cars. Gordie McMillan took time enough off from hockey to be S. S. supt. this week. The primary class presented a flannelgraph of John 6. 15-21 with Billy Short read- ing the 'story while others composed the picture. Carol Anne Sturman had to be persuaded to deposit her 4c in the birthday box but seemed happy after she understood. Attendance was 95.
