After a rather dull winter it was cheering to see boats heading north again instead of all those snowmobiles, The Easter theme was cen- tral in the U.C.W. worship period on Wednesday even- ing. Most of the members of Unit 3 took: part in present- ing the Easter story as told by scripture 'hymns and "eg readings. Unit leader Mrs, Cliff Short conducted this part of the meeting and Mrs, Butt gave a suitable topic. Business was conducted by the president, Mrs. Bertrand. 9 The usual reports showed that we are still solvent, that we are still sending sick boxes, still making. visits and still preparing layettes. Most of the business was planping "this and that" for o the tea and bazaar on April 27th. Invitations were read from Greenbank for an illus- i trated lecture on April .23, ] for a workshop at Sunder- land on May 3rd and for a spring bazaar at Columbus 7 on May 8th. The Dowson's only son, Donald lives in Austra. lia so could not be there. The Tobins had a birth- day party too, on Sunday. It was for Kim Tobin, one year old and her ~ grondiather John. Groves and Peggy of Toronto stayed over Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Stone and Ross. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Moon, Corina and Mrs. Hindley of Toronto spent" "Good Friday with the Aubrey Moons. . Also home, down on the farm were Mr. F. Watson and Mr. and: Mrs. E. Dregar of Toronto. The ~spring-like weather brought friends galore from Oshawa to the home of Mr. and Mrs. V. Otto. Miss + Marilyn McMillan spent' Easter, in Shawinigan | Falls, Quebec with her room- mate Miss Celine Lacosse. In Kingston over the holi- day were, Mrs. Reta Boe and her grandson, Wayne Dow- son _of Port Perry. They vis- ited Mr. and Mrs. Carl Boe and sons. Those people weren't miss- ed too much at church, It was McNeil Sunday as well as Easter and the attendance of regulars and visitors was very, very good indeed. The pulpit bible given by Mr, McNeil to mark his 50 years of service as a minister was presented and dedicated. The service was conducted by Mr. Harris but Mr. McNeil proved he was still quite capable of delivering a good. half-hour sermon. Mr. and Mrs. McNeil will celebrate their 45th wedding anniver- sary shortly. _ The junior choir was out in full force and rendered a nice Easter anthem, their most ambitious effort so far. Next week take a look at the woman in the choir gown. It should be -Mrs. Charles Short the new organist. Mrs. Short is disturbed about be- ing rusty and hopes the con- gregation = will not be too critical for a while. The re- tiring organist, Mrs. Tobin as served faithfully and well for 12 years and just possibly could use a rest. Next week the usual ser- vices. Remember the bazaar and tea on April 27th and Rev. Gunther from Japan speak- ing on April 28th.
