Saturday, April 13th saw the end of the Port Perry Minor Hockey season. The day got off to a slow start owing possibly 'to the beautifu} summer weather and nny of the boys who exhibition games picked up their fishing poles and headed for the lake in- stead of the arena. The day was not a total loss as the finals started at 12 noon and those fans who came and sat in their shirt sleeve saw some fine hockey and while as the heat of the afternoon and competition increased only the players equipment and not their en- " thusiasm was dampened as many fell or took the big olunge to the watery ice. The Tyke final game was a veal thriller with constant end to end play and all the enthusiasm that 6 or 7 year olds can put into his game. Parker's team edged Fran- ssen's team 4-3 to take the Port Perry Legion Branch 419 "Presidents" trophy and all- the happy winners rec- --eived individual trophies opurtesy of Branch. 419, also both teams received their Minor Hockey Crests. For Parker, Wilbur scored 2 goals and Lee and Bower one each, for the losing team - NOVICE Luke's Merchants won the ing Lake Scum Luniber , Kings 3:0. The first rion was' 'score- less and at 5.03 of the sec- ond Barry Heard scored assisted by Waldinsperger. Then at 13.30 Phil Cochrane made it 2-0 and at 4.40 of the third period Kevin Had. ley was given a penalty. shot and he scored a neat goal "to put the game on ice. The Kings put up a great fight but Luke's goal tender stop- ped everything. © Joe Fowler presented the .captain with the Dr. Dymond * Cup and then crests were given to the champs and to - the Lumber Kings. PEE WEE Club Annrene Bruins de- feated Legionaires 2-1 to capture the Lions Club Cup. The first period was score- less. The second period saw the Bruins take the lead on a goal by Boneshanker from Taylor and Huffman, only to have the Legion tie it up 30 seconds later on a goal by McKean from Brain. In the third period Huff- man scored assisted by Jeff- ery at 8.41 and' it proved to be the winner. The captain of the Bruins, Ken Jeffery was presented the Lions Club Trophy by Mr. Bob Kenny as well as their champ crests. This series was very close and coach Larry Best's team gave the Bruins a tough time. BANTAMS This game turned ont to be the most splashing of the day,- as Campbell's. (Scuba Divers) took on Gunters (Surf Boarders) and many of the players took the big Swan Dives during the game as water seemed to be everywhere. Jim McLeod got the under- dogs off to a-good start by scoring the first goal assist- the first period. McLeod took a penalty at 11.28 of the sec- ond period and Tomichishin scored to tie it up assisted by Rick Campbell. Prosser put-them- one-goal up-a-min- ed by Martin. and Hawes at the 15.00 minute mark of), Nesbitt had 5 goals and six assists for 11 points in play: offs but Campbell won the Hawe's Brothers Trophy 'by having the most 'goals. Carnighan was also in the race with 6 goals and two assists for 8 points. In Pee Wee playoffs Huff- man was the leader with 8 -goals and 2 assists for 10 points. Jeffery 4 goals and 3 assists for 7 points. Prosser had 6 goals for 6 points and Taylor 4 goals and 1 assist for 5 points. 'In Novice playoffs Phil Cochrane lead with 5 goals and 1 assist for 6 points. Kevin Hadley 1 goal and 2 assists: for 3 points, Waldin- sperger 1 goal and 1 assist for 2 points and Barry Heard 1 goal and 1 assist for 2 points. On Saturday evening 10 couples gathered at the Leg- ion Auditorium to celebrate the ending of the hockey. season with the Minor Hoc- key Executive and everyone enjoyed the evening danc- ing to the "Ambassadors" fine music from Oshawa. . As this probably the last column of this season Minor one, Boosters, Sponsors, Coaches, Managers, Referees and fans for helping to make this. season the most success- ful yet.
