16 - PORT PERRY STAR -- Thygsday, May 9th, 1968 "Mrs. Gladys Archer was in * Toronto recently where she attended a welcome home party in honour of her grandaughter Wendy Brydon, R.N. Wendy had just ar rived home from India, where she had been working at the Christian Medical Centre there for the past year and a half. i «ss Mr. and Mrs. Terry Boyd, Toronto are spending a few days with his parents Mr. & Mrs. Irving Boyd. __,. . * = » Mr. Edgar Leask celebrat- "ed his 80th Birthday on April 28th, when 37 relatives enjoyed dinner in the United Church, catered to by Unit 9 of the UC.W. Mr. Leask 'ROUND THE TOWN: received various gifts, one of, which was a lovely mantel clock. After dinner the guests were invited to the home of Mr. Leask for a social get-together. * * LJ Ll] The dance held at Club Annrene on Saturday even- ing sponsored by the Scugog Ball .club proved to be a very profitable evening for the Club. 150 people en- joyed a nevening of dancing. * * * LJ] The cutline printed under- neath a picture of Mr. Samuel Eyre and Herb Buck- land in last week's issue states that Mr. Eyre joined the Royal Navy in 1901. This was an error on the part of the Star, and should have read 1896. \ OPP _ REPORT A 'STOP' sign's main di- rection is very basic and simple: bring your vehicle fo a stop. What could be easi- er? In a city or town quite often a white stop line will be painted on the road to in- dicate exactly where the ve- hicles are to stop. What about the rural intersections though? Many motorists: apparently -are under the impression that the proper place to stop is directly opposite the sign. Since the 'STOP' sign can be anywhere from 1 to 50 feet back from the inter- section, this practice can and does lead to accidents. The proper and lawful place to stop where no guide lines are present, is imme- diately prior to and before entering the intersection. Once stopped, of course, the right of way must be yielded to all other traffic already in the intersection or about to enter the intersection. Learn all of Ontario's traf- fic laws and signs. There's no better guide to safe driv- ing. COMMERCIAL SITES h REAL ESTATE LTO -REALION 985-7373 Your local representative can help you plan ASSURANCE COMPANY Cm Great-West Life WM.
