a i Yr WE hot MRF Brae A Cra oa 3 a 8 3 A --_-- SS STARE 14 10 - PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, July 25th, 1968 PORT PERRY x STAR % SPoRrS Lakers Back In Action In case any lacrosse fan or other interested party within reading distance of the Port Perry Star has found that queries about the town's only lacrosse team have been met with blank faces or puzzled expressions, here is the latest info for the month of July. Friday, the 5th: the Lakers turned in a performance that had one main ingredient -- frustration. Unable to get untracked, Port went down to defeat at the hands of a hard-running Uxbridge team 7 to 2 before a good home- town crowd. Saturday, the 6th: Cy Wil- son's (sponsor) boys went on the road to Sunderland and played their best lacrosse game of the season, doubling the score on Sunderland's finest 8 to 4. Good passing, hard checking and excellent goal-keeping proved that la- crosse ability is present and worth watching on a local scale. Since their sojurn to Sun- derland, the Lakers havel. been idle but get back into action this week. Tomorrow night at 8.30 p.m. in the Community Arena Port will have a chance to reek revenge on Uxbridge. The players will no doubt be up for the game and should provide a good contest for all spectators. On Saturday evening the whole league takes a break while the best players from each team combine on an All-Star squad . to- take on 'the Oshawa juveniles. Mem- bers selected from Port Perry Lakers are: Wayne Ashton, Allan Ashton, Walt Karas, and Tom-- Appleby (goal). Proceeds go to the Ontario Lacrosse. Association for promotion of lacrosse throughout the province. Both games will be worth- while for participants and spectators." A group of holidayers who sneaked off without telling us last week, are Mr. and Mrs. Ken Short, their sons Gordon and Larry and Mr. Art Gordon who have been in Nova Scotia about a week now. Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Sedore are having a second honey- moon. They: left their three children at home and set off on Tuesday for a week's trip to Sault Ste. Marie, going by way of Ontario but plan- ning to return through USA. The Otto's think there is- n't much use having a river at the back door and not using it. Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. V. Otto on Sunday came by boat from Port Perry Yacht Club. There were 5 boats in all and the passengers were: Mr. and Mrs. H. Jermyn and B. Clarke of Whitby, Mr. and Mrs. R. Wicks, Mr. and Mrs. C. Hub- bell, Mr. and Mrs. E. Jones and Mr. and Mrs. B. Whiting and son Jim,.all of Oshawa, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Orde of mother Mrs. de Haan who is here-on a trip from Holland. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Luke were at home too. Wayne, Lynda and Mary Lee Wanamaker of Oshawa spent the week-end with Shelves are empty or lightly filled in the local Post Office most of the time since the nation wide mail strike went into effect Thursday last week. Deliveries are still maintained in Port Perry and rural routes, but mail from outside these points are non- existent. Talks are going on between the two parties, but no indications of an early end to the tie-up is in sight. . Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Carr and their three daughters were in Mount Albert on Saturday attending a re- union of the Carr clan. There is a large hole being dug on the 12th corner tri- angle which used to belong to Glenn Wanamaker. The story is--that this will, be a pond and that a house will be built near by next year. From -the-size of the pond we wonder where the house will be. Attendance at church on Sunday was poor and at S.S. only fair. Donna Bruce read a story for the program number and her mother gave the birthday box a boost. Next week services will be at the usual hours, then no- | thing ' more until the first Sunday of September, - granpa and grandma Wana- maker down at the store. Now having her ' annual summer visit at the Keens is Mrs. R. Moase (aunt Cora) of Toronto. Mrs. A. Moon accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Clem- ents and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Somerville on a visit to her sick brother in Peterboro hospital on Sunday and re- ports his condition as un- changed.
