This was the only hit Rick allow- ed, as he struck out 15 bat- ters. Ballard's got started in the third inning on errors to 3rd and 1st on successive bunts by Ken Clark and Rick Beare. Dale Beare came through with a double to drive in both runners. In the fourth inning Bob . Baxter connected with a solid hit which cleared the left field fence with ease to give Ballards a 3-1 lead. There wiil be a 'bus leav- PEE WEE FINAL Emmerson's Insurance have taken a two game lead in the Pee Wee final over Jewell Const. Emmerson's won the first game 9-6 and on Monday night came up with a 12:8 victory. Joe Fowler and Glenn VanCamp have these boys playing good ball and will be looking for the wrap-up game on Mon- day night. Jewell will no doubt have other ideas. SQUIRT SEMI FINAL Goodwood and Scugog Is- land are battling in one semi- final series while Hanks Pas- tries have a one game lead over Ideal Dairy. Hanks won the first game 12-6 on Sat. afternoon. BANTAM GIRLS FINAL ~Angels have evened up the best of five series at one game each. They came up with a 9-4 win on Tuesday last. This series could very well go- the limit as these young girls improve every time out. The Lumber girls hold a one game lead after a convincing 17-2 vic- tory. : Flamingo Midgets are still in the running for the York County Trophy with a. big} win in Markham. The past week-end saw Willowdale win the 0.A.S.A. Squirt Championship. They defeated Simcoe 6-2 and de- feated Markham in the final 2-1. Marmora had defeated Galt 9-2 in the first game. This was the first time Willowdale had won this trophy. Mrs. Marion Rodway, a gra- duate from Hamilton Teach- ers' College, has taught for the past few years in Lynden, Ontario. Mrs. Rodway is the wife of John Rodway, teacher. at the Port Perry High School. Her special interest is music. Mr. Trevor Tristram is an- other young person on the staff. Mr. Tristram gradu- ated from Toronto Teachers' College this year. He is par- ticularly interested in folk singing and scouting. Mr. Dave Presley, who hails from Lindsay, has taught in Blind River and for the past two years in Brampton. In addition to assisting in Phys. Ed, pro- gramme, he teaches history on' the senior rotary. John Stark, a former Tor- ontonian has had several years experience, both in Toronto and Stouffville. As a supplement to his regular duties, Mr, Stark will act as a consultant teacher for the grade six area and assist in the active sports programme. Local Man In Film Production The above picture was taken on the occasion of the "World Premiere" of the student - made - film, THE TRIP. Mr. C. D. (Danny) Reesor was the staff advisor for the Audio-Visual Club, the members of which made the film. The premiere, held at their School in June, highlighted the results of many hours of planning, filming, and editing;--which the boys. did during the spring. Realizing that film plays a very important part in the lives of every boy and girl to-day, many schools are venturing into the field of screen education, This 'is instruction designed to help the student develop an ap- preciation for, as well as an undertaking of, the motion picture film as a means of communication as well as a form of entertainment. The object in making a film is not to aim for perfection in cinematic skills, but to ex- perience the means through which an idea, or story, can be communicated by using film. s It was with this in EWI that these boys were given the opportunity to further their interest in Audio-Visual equipment by writing a story |. which could be told by using visuals (pictures) instead of using ~ written or spoken words. : A rewarding evening oc- curred then, when over 150 invited guests and friends attended the premiere, given by the classmates of the boys. In addition to this honour, the film (about a camping trip) was shown at all of the Audio-Visual Summer Cour- ses in the Province of Ont- ario this Summer, by Mr. C. E. Four 50 foot rolls of film were .used, with some footage be- ing edited out before screen- ing for the public. v Danny Reesor, a former re- sident of Port Perry, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reesor, has taught at Regent Heights School in Scarbor- ough for the past five years, and will be joining the staff of the Audio-Visual Depart- ment in Scarborough as a _consultant in the Elementary Schools, in September. Busy Weekend For Lawn Bowlers The ladies and gents who like 'lawn bowling came to Port Perry on Wednesday, Sept. 4th and enjoyed a real day of bowling under good , conditions as regards weather and fast greens. Clubs rep- resented were Lindsay, Can- nington and Oshawa and Co- bourg. The local ladies served re- freshments between the first® and second game. The winners in order were: Mr. and Mrs. Luke, Oshawa; Mr. and Mrs. Strain, Lind- say; Mr. Miller and Mrs. Pur- vis, Cannington and Mr. De. Shane and Mrs. Bentley ofs Port Perry. Saturday, Sept. 7th was a good day to travel and four teams from Port Perry went to' Cannington for a mixed doubles event. .One team, consisting of Roy Hones® Bruce Beare and H. DeShane went to Highland Creek. A lot of fun and good food but points were a little scarce so no prize money but we are hopeful in next trip.
