They played a team of All-Star "girls from the area and put on quite a show. a y [PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, October 3rd, 1968-11 Softball Champions Continued Both teams played very sharp ball and the crowd on .| hand which was one of the largest ever to see a game in Port Perry was treated to a great game. _ . The Juvenile "C"" Trophy was presented by OASA Pre- sident Clare Butler of Wil- lowdale. He congratulated both teams on the great ef- forts .they put forth and re- marked that he manages to see two or three games each year in Port Perry where he has made many friends. He then presented the Champ- ionship pennant to sponsor John Ballard. Mr. Butler pointed out "how important men like John Ballard are to Softball and here in Port Perry John Ballard has done a great deal to promote Soft- ball. A deserving tribute to a fine man, The championship crests and the finalists crests were presented by Mr. Butler and Executive. Member of the OASA from Port Perry Vin Walker, The entire team was then loaded onto the Town Fire Truck & taken through town wifh siren wailing. Both teams were. then treated to sandwiches and pop at the arena while the adults were served coffee. The great ().4:131]v]¢] following of fans from Tavi- stock were well fed: before they boarded the bus for home. For coaches Mc Mc- Millan and 'Wayne Venning a job well done, Théy both devoted a great deal of time to these boys but they were fortunate. to have such a group of fine boys to work with, o John Ballard was very proud on Saturday night and well he should. He has been a tremendous boost to soft. ball and besides his sponsor- ship he also has erected the new score board this year. The local association are well blessed with sponsors like John Ballard and without these men the executive would find it hard to operate. The great following of fans have also meant a great deal to these boys and the boys appreciate this support. ~All in all a great windup to a great softball season which now shows Port Perry with three Provincial Hon- ours in .six years of opera- tion.
