When should we use forages and when should wé use grains in making up a balanced cattle ra fltion? Or, perhaps the question should. be how much of each. : ff Two fundamental questions are -- which is cheaper, and -- will the cheapest ration permit fithe degree of mechanization in feeding that is desired? A ration for milking cows that does not con- | tain plenty of fibre will reduce the butterfat ltest. About the only time this becomes a prob- lem is when large amounts of shelled corn or ffother low-fibre rations are used. 210 ll Corn silage is gaining in popularity. - While A many may think of this feed only as a forage iH or roughage, good corn silage may contain very large amounts of grain too. Forages do produce nutrients more cheaply iithan you can buy them or produce them in the (4 torm of grain. Top quality legume silage is high Ridin protein so that when fed with high energy ma corn silage, it will provide a ration that will sup- Al port average milk production. Re: Our Affluent Society Have you tried to give anything away, lately? Es- pecially to the Salvation Army in Uxbridge? Over three weeks ago, 1 expended the price of a Long Distance Call to ask the "Sally Ann" to call and col- lect the bulging surplus of household goods - clothing, utensils, furniture, ete., which accumulates over 18 years of residing in one spot. After waiting - and waiting - AND WAITING - I finally called Long Distance*again - only to be told that unfor- tunately the man who does the pick-ups is too busy with weddings, funerals, ete. - - AND (this is what got me!) Teenage dresses, and heaven only knows what else. Do we not have "poor" people any more? Or is yes- terday's middle-class now re- legated to the poverty level. I have friends in Toronto who told me they had to pay $10.50 to have a reason- ably good chesterfield suite carted away, because nobody wanted it. I didn't think this could happen in Ontario County - but apparently - it can, and does! So why worry about the starvation problem in Biafra? Better we should pay the freight charges and send them warm clothing and they could sell it for food! I have always admired .the work done about Court Cases pregnant unmarried women, ete., by the Salvation. Army in the cities, but after my [DANCING | CLUB ANNRENE SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5th -- "Gene and the Starlighters" . . . he also "serves' on the SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12th -- "Ron Myers and His Orchestra" Fire Department. All of these "services" presumably bring in a fee or salary. The welfare end of the Salvation Army work apparently is for the birds. bf are not ¢Junk"." They in- clude a baby bassinnette, a lady's fur coat - men's suits - School Bd. Continued Oshawa's position on the county board will actually be stronger than 35 per cent re- presentation because two of the three separate school trustees on the county board will be elected at large from the city of Oshawa with the third coming from the rest of the county's separate school voters, thus giving the city a potential 45 per cent control. Whitby will elect two trus- tees to the county board and Pickering township will elect three on a ward basis. Voters from the village of Pickering-and the town of |' Ajax have been lumped to- gether to vote for a single trustee on the board. The northern part of Ont- ario County will have a total of four trustees on the 20- member board. The townships of Rama, Mara, Thorah, and the village of Beaverton will be voting for one trustee. The town- ships of Scott and Uxbridge, and the town of Uxbridge will combine their votes to elect one representative. The township of Brock, the township of Reach, and the village of Cannington will elect one trustee and one trustee will be elected by the residents of the township of Scugog, the township of East Whitby, and the village of Port Perry, . : Representation is based on an average provincial equal- ized assessment per trustee of $44,971,944. ih Ga - { Ed Er SE Te Sp experience with the Uxbridge outfit, I begin to wonder!
