Legionaires Honour Comrades Fallen In Continued Minister the Honorable John Robarts. % } Deputy District Command- er Eric Hoog introduced the guest speaker, A. H. Adams, ¢2nd Vice-President Dominion Command, Royal Canadian Legion. Mr. Adams joined the Scottish Regiment in 1925 and. was in charge of the signals. He was 'promoted o the rank of Major, and was responsible for the train- ing of troops. He joined the Bell Telephone Co. in 1946. Mr. Adams has worked his way up through the Legion ranks and was 'elected 3rd avice President in Montreal and is now 2nd Vice Presi- dent. In less than four years Mr. Adams will be President of Dominion Command. Mr. Adams brought greet- ings from Dominion Com. He paid tribute to the men who took part in that great conflict, those - who died and those who lived to return home. Mr. Adams said that 50 years was a long time, but for the memory of a World War I veteran it seems only a short timel ; He said that after hearing the remark that there are not many 1st World War Veterans left, he check- ed the records and found that there were still 121,000 still living. He stated that another statement we hear is that "Old Soldiers never die, they just fadé away". This is not always true, as the oldest known veteran in Canada is 102 years of age. He served with the North West Fiel Force of 1885. : Of World War 2 there are over 840,000 Canadian Vet- erans still living, and their average age is between 45 and 55 years of age. Mr. Adams said that the Department of Veterans Af- fairs still have a sizeable 'duty to perform. He said there are ten D.V.A.- hospi- tals and three nursing homes still in operation in which some 8000 patients a.day re- ceive treatment. t 1st Vice President M. Woodcock thanked the guest speaker and John Maw pre- sented him with a gift from the Branch. On Sunday, Branch 419 held their annual. Church Parade, again with a small turnout. The parade formed behind the Post Office and paraded to the Library where wreaths were placed in memory of those veterans who gave their lives in both world wars. The Silver Cross Mother placing a wreath was Mrs. Leonard Leahy. The parade then marched up Queen Street and down Ottawa Street to the Church of the Immaculate Concep- tion for service. 'Scugog Head U.C.W. will cater and this will be the third year, and all are looking forward to this yearly event. A bus will convey members to the Church. Program and gifts afterwards. Pleased to hear the treas- urer Mr. H. Buckland is home again, after travelling by plane to Norway and England places nearby, where some of us members spent our young-. ger days. Many memories will be revived of those good old days as Mr. Buckland shows us slides of his many travels.
