Welfare Industries is at 148 Ossington 'Avenue. Here in a large workroom several treated for mental illness in Ontario hospital are employ- ed. They still are not well enough to go into the busin-« ess world. The work is done by the church with co-oper- ation of Public Health Re- habilitation and Ontario Hos- pital. The women usually are employed here about one year. They sort clothing, clean and repair if necess: ary. It is sold at the Welfare Industries stores (3 in Tor onto). Clothing not fit for sale is made into aprons and quilts. Buttons and zippers are saved and sold. Articles of no other use are sold as salvage. These good folks want any old clothing, furn- iture, refrigerators, stoves, electrical appliances (they can repair them) odd dishes, books, bedding, draperies & material for quilts. They have a truck to pick these things up. We are accepting these gifts by any UCW member or they may be left at Epsom church. ' Other church groups who wish to participate could get information from us. The Epsom, Utica U.C.W. was held at Utica. It' was voted to give the Explorers $50.00 of the money for Re- gal card sales, a thank you to the girls for their assist- ance in taking orders. The Christmas meeting will be December 10. The missionary money will be paid then. Mrs. H. Kerry was in charge of the programme. Mrs. Walter Kerry read "In Flanders Fields", Mrs. H. Kerry read "A Poem to Re- Conscience" and Mrs, W. Kerry read "A Poam to Re- member." Mrs. Faye Ashton conduct- ed a musical contest. Group three served a delicious lunch. The prizes won at the Ep- som Community euchre and dance were won by: Ladics 1st, Jean Houghland; 2nd, Annie Christie; low, Vivien Carl. Door prize, Margaret Watson. Gentlemen, 1st, John Hodgson; 2nd, Bruce Hough: land; low, Harold Percy. Door prize, Chas. Cottyn. The Prentice family were all home with Gordon and Elsie for the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Catherwood of Brooklin vis ited mother and dad Ashton on Sunday. Dr. Jerrod, Mrs. Asling and Jan were at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs, Donald Asling.
