"It's Displays Fine Collection Of Guns Norm Middleton, an ardent gun collector, proudly displays the trophy he was awarded for the finest selection of guns on display at a recent show held by Antique Arms Guild in Oshawa. The trophy is of solid silver and is his for keeps. All guns he displayed have brass barrels, and. in front on the table is a Box 'Lock Gun, from the early 1800. Behind is a Sea Service Pistol used in the British Navy about 1750. To the right are two dueling pistols in use between 1750 -- 1820. The gun shown only partly 'to the left is a Brass Barrel Coach Gun or Blunder Buss from 1782, used for the defence of coaches against highway robbers. Mr. Middleton is holding a British military » musket, used between 1700 and 1800. He has collected guns for only the last 18 months, but has in his collection no less than 43 guns of various sizes and ages. The accident happened| --while Mr. Jordan was on his » - Way home, about 12.40 a.m. Saturday, when an oncoming car driven by David Melville Weber, 21 collided head-on with him. Cecil Fralick, Victor Aldred (the present reeve) and Joseph Dowson were nominated for reeve. Victor Aldred declined the nomination, leaving Mr. # Fralick and Mr. Dowson to contest the seat. Five names were present for the office of deputy-reeve, Philip Goreski, Joseph Dow- gon, June Crozier, Grace Love and Cecil Fralick, Mr. Dowson * and Mr. Fralick both declined leaving two council imcumb- ents, Mrs. Crozier and Mrs. Love to contest the seat along with mmewcomer, Philip. Goreski. Eight nominations for council were posted but only] . three (the required number) qualifying and elected by acclamation. Cartwright Township Election For Deputy-Reeve Councillors Reeve of Cartwright Town- ship S. Lawrence Malcolm was returned to office during Saturday's nominations at Blackstock Township Hall. Elections for deputy-reeve and councillors will be neces- sary when Gordon Gettins, councillor this year accepted nomination for this position. He will be opposing the present deputy-reeve John R. '| Hamilton. Accepting nominations for council were Vernon- Assel- stine and Osmond Wright, both present members, and contesting the three seats are also Donald Frew, Norman Mairs and Walter Wright. Seeking the one seat on the Divisional Board of Educ- ation for the United Counties of Northumberland and Dur- ham is Harold M. Kyte, Black- stock, Cartwright Township. Opposing him, from Manvers Township is Arthur Rowan of Yelverton. Mr. Kyte is chairman of Cartwright Township School Board, and Mr. Rowan; Man- vers representative on Victoria County High School Board. This year's municipal elect- ions in Port Perry should be one of the most interesting and exciting held in many years. Monday, a week ago nominations were held to pick candidates for the Ont- ario County Board of Educ- ation. Four qualified, and two of the candidates are Port Perry men, Gordon Goode and Howard Hall, two lesser known men to ~ this area, from East Whitby, J. Lister Robinson and Douglas Clark also qualified. Thursday, last week, nom- inations for municipal council were held in Port Perry, and elections will be necessary for all positions, except deputy- reeve, given to Mr. Bruce Beare by acclamation. This will be Mr. Beare's second term in this office. Mr. Phil Orde, was also nominated for deputy-reeve, but did not qualify for this position. . Nominated to. the office of reeve were, J.J. Gibson, who has held the top position for the last 12 years. Opposing him for the bid of reeve is Mr. Robert Kenny, a member of Council forthe past decade. Three Vehicle Crash On Queen Street Believe it or not, the large spots in the picture above are snowflakes many times enlarged. It was taken at an accident scene, Thursday, November 21, about 5 p.m. in front of Kayvan Ladies Wear involving three vehicles. A 1966 Pontiac, driven by Clarence Masters, 52, Mari- posa Township was apparently leaving Beare Motors Service Station when it slid into a delivery truck of Peel's Poultry Farm and pushed it across the: street on slippery pavement. Mrs. Kathleen Vandermark, prop- rietor of Kayvan's had her car, a 1967 Oldsmobile parked in front of the store. The impact from the truck pushed agajnst the store front.
