Elect Robert Kenny Port Perry Reeve 5 Of Voting Force Cast Ballots After 12 years as reeve of ¢ Port Perry, Mr, J, J. Gibson lost out to councillor Robert J. Kenny in his bid for an- other term of this office. Mr. Gibson, also a former Warden of Ontario County, received only 142 votes to » Mr. Kenny's staggering vote of 782. Mr. Kenny was far ahead in all three polling places, and there was never any --~doubt who would become the next reeve of Port Perry. - Mr. Bruce Beare received an acclamation for deputy reeve at the nomination meet- ing held Thursday, Nov. 21. Mr. P. W. Orde, a coun- cillor on the present council "No Recount Mr. Allan Bertrand, who ran a close fourth in the municiapl - election, Mon- ». day night, has decided he will not demand a recount, Only three votes separ- ated the third and fourth candidate for the office of council, Joseph Podres and Allan Bertrand, with * 503 and 500 votes respect- ively. The other two candi dates elected were P.W. Orde and Kenneth Jackson. topped the polls quite hand- ily, and received 767 votes. In second place was one of three newcomers, Kenneth F, Jackson with 554 votes. The two other candidates run- ning for office, Joseph Pod- res and Allan Bertrand ran neck and neck in the thrce polling stations, Mr. Podres winning with a small margin of three votes, 503 to Bert- rand's 500. "Three candidates were no- minated for the two positions on Hydro-Electric . Commis- sion left vacant by the re- tirement of Arthur Cox and Ted Jackson. Mr. Wm, Williams, led the polls with a total of 654 votes, Ted Griffen in second place with 463 closely fol- lowed by George McPhaden with 459. The local .vote for one position on the new Ontario County Board of Education went in strong favour of Mr. Gordon Goode with a total of 624 votes, W. Howard Hall followed in second place with 255, and in third and fourth places came the two East Whitby candidates with 27 votes each. That a. great deal of in- terest was shown by the residents of Port Perry in this year's election is proven by one of the largest turn- outs to the polls in many years, namely 53.179. Gettins Deputy-Reeve In Cartwright Twp. Robert Gettins was success- ful in his bid for the posi. tion of deputy-reeve in Cart- wright Township elections, Monday, Dec. 2nd. He is re- placing the present deputy- reeve, John R. Hamilton, and received 366 votes to Mr. Hamilton's "275. Donald Frew topped the polls for elections of coun- cillors with 425 votes, Vern. on Asselstine, 410, Norman Mairs, 348, Osmond Wright 314, and Walter Wright 260. Three first names elected. " Reeve Lawrence Malcolm was given an acclamation for the next term.
