It was a bright and frosty aftemoon, free from hazardous driving conditions, when the home of Mr. & Mrs. Thos. Redman was opened to wel- come a restricted number of old friends to visit with the happy couple and their family. Mrs. Redman, formerly Ethel Jones, came from Bath, England in 1917 to thehome of her sister, Mrs. Fry, in Oshawa. their younger bro- ther, Reg. also came to Canada. A year later she met and married Thos. Red- man and they have always made their home 'on the pioneer farm at the "Head". The marriage was blessed with 3 children; Clifford who took over the farm, Irene, Mrs. Allan Carter, on a Scugog Farm and Allan also living at the "Head". The Redmans have six grandchildren; John, David, Tommy and Tanya Redman, Karen and Ross it Carter, all _of whom:-have a close contact. ------During-the-years Mrs. Red- man has been very active and helpful in music circles and has a poetic talent. Their home was always open for community needs. Tho' of a quiet nature Mr. Redman has led a respected, joyful and influential life, Tho' Mr. Redman has perhaps seen more Scugog he has responded very well to medication and enjoys his life as much as possible. The esteem of the family ~~ and friends was shown on Sunday when over 50 guests we arrived at various times. Teskey and a couple of friends out for a turkey buffet supper. . Ashburn News Mr. Walter Anderson, of Toronto had pre Christmas dinner with his parents Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Anderson on Monday. Mrs. Clyde Playfair, of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Rich- ardson during the week. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Eng- lish, of Woodville, called on. Miss Vera Leach on Tuesday. Mrs. H. Doble spent a couple of days last week with Mrs. F. Stephen in Brooklin who had the misfortune to fracture her arm. Mr. Wayne Ashton who is attending York University, Toronto; motored to Florida for ten days of his vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Heron spent Christmas Day with Rev. K. A. and Mrs. Heron & family, at Barrie; and Boxing Day at a Reynolds family ga- thering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McAndless, Don Mills. Miss Frances Downing, of Toronto spent the holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Daw. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Bat- ten; Miss Judy Batten; Mr. and Mrs. Ross Batten were Christmas Day visitors with Mr. and Mrs. E. Batten, Osh- awa. Mrs. Howard Stiver, of Unionville called- on friends in the village on Sunday. There was a spendid at- tendance at the Christmas Tree and concert held in our New Sunday School Hall on Monday evening, Dec. 23rd at 8 o'clock with Rev. Wm. Black acting as chairman. Each class frem primary to adult contributed a number to the program, also Explor- ers, C.G.LT. & Junior Choir. Twenty - four and one-half million of the new issue, de- signed by Prof. Imre von Mosdossy of Agincourt, Ont- ario, will be printed by the Canadian Bank Note Co. Ltd., Ottawa ,using a combination of the steel engraving and lithographic processes. An engraved portrait of the late Governor General, printed in dark brown, occupies the upper half of the vertical 24 mm x 40 mm stamp; wording in a lower area, printed by lithography with dark brown lettering on the olive green background, has "Vincent Massey" and the years of his birth and death "1887-1967" arranged on two lines. Immediately there- under is "Governor General" placed on two lifies to the left and "Gouverneur Génér- al" similarly, arranged to the right; immediately below are the years "1952-1959" indi- cating Governor General Massey's prolonged term of office. A dark brown deno- minative "6" to the upper right of the portrait and "Canada", in white on a dark brown box at the base, com- pletes the design. C.W.L News The C.W.L. held their December Meeting in the Catholic Community Hall There was a short business meeting followed by a Pot Luck 'Supper. A collection was taken to take care of expenses for shutins and Mental Health Patients. A motion was madé to give a donation to the Retarded School 'on the Island. Mrs. Geer thanked the C.W.L. for their help at the Investiture and Presentation of Awards Service at the Church. A skit was presented by the executive. Santa Claus came and distributed the presents under the tree. On Dec. 8th a very im- pressive Ceremony took place when Father Lee presented the Crosses and Sashes to the Altar Boys. This was follow- ed by Mass, The Choir for the Mass was "The Singing |} Teens", from Uxbridge. Lunch was served in the Hall afterwards by the mo- thers of -the Altar Boys. HE.
