' CONLIN The. death occurred Sun., January 5th, 1959, at his 'home R.R. #2, Port Perry following a short illness. In his 86th year. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Conlin, the de- ceased was born in Darling- "ton Township. He married Florence Bryant in = Port Perry on September 30, 1908, Mr. Conlin is survived by his wife Florence, daughters, Lauretta (Mrs. L. Collins) of Port Perry, Marion of Tor- onto, Helen (Mrs. Tom O'- Connell) of Ottawa. A son Stancy Conlin predeceased. ROBERT SQUELCH The death occurred, Dec. 27, at the Oshawa General Hospital, following a short sickness, of Mrs. Robert Squelch. Born in 1881 at Mount Carmel, the former Edith Maud Hezzelwood was the daughter of the late James and Sarah Hezzelwood. Married in 1905 to Robert Squelch, they farmed in the Raglan district until their retirement to Oshawa in 1951. Predeceased by her hus- band in February, 1955, the deceased is survived by a son, Earl Squelch, of Columbus, a grandson, Allan Squelch of Columbus; a great-grand- daughter and a brother, J.J. Hezzelwood of Winnipeg. Mrs. Squelch was pre- deceased by three sisters, Mrs. John Weatherhogg (Sadie), Mrs. Louis Hill (Eliza) and Mrs. R. Long (Sara Amelia) and several nieces and nephews. 3 The funeral service was conducted by S.G. AUBREY HAROLD MOON After about 9 weeks as patient in Port Perry Helfy tal, Mr. Aubrey Moon passed quietly away there on Dec. 24th, 1968. '(He was the younger son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Moon and was born in Mari- posi township in 1898. While he was only 'a small child the family moved to a farm very close to Seagrave village so the late Mr. Moon received his education at the local school. As a young man he was keenly interested in sports, particularly baseball and hockey and played on bush league teams in the early years of the century. In 1927 he was married to Miss Marjorie Hadwin of ®%| Little Britain and the couple @| went to Toronto where they $ | spent 25 years, during which time he worked as electric $ welder for the John Woods company. When poor health made it necessary for him to quit work in 1952, the fam- ily returned to the home community, where they have lived ever since. During those 17 years of enforced idleness Mr. "Moon's chief interests were his family: -and his garden. Mourning his passing are his widow Marjoris, two daughters--Mrs. J. Lake of Toronto (Gwen) and Mrs. E. || Williams of Goderich (lla), two sons--Harold of Toronto and Olifford at home and 8 grandchildren. Other close relatives are his three sis- ters Mrs. Adam Wallace of Bolton, Mrs. Clarence Wright of Cannington and Mrs. Wm. Keen of Seagrave. He was predeceased by an older bro- ther Roy and a sister Eva (Mrs. Butt). Funeral services were con- ducted by Rev. David Harris at the McDermott-Panabaker funeral home in Port Perry 'on Friday, Dec. 27th. Pall- bearers were Messrs. Morley Bruce, Cecil Fishley, Hey- wood Short and Murdoch Be- lair of Seagrave, Mr. Glenn Wanamaker of Port Perry and Mr. Alex Cartwright of Toronto. . Interment will be in Pleas- ant Pt. Cemetery. Last week's story that the gift for Mr. & Harris was a mirror was wrong. This' week we are told it was a clock. The first meeting of the U.C.W. for '69 was held in the S. S. room on Wed. even- ing with a smaller attendance al than usual. The meeting was in charge of the executive so the new president Mrs. Tobin was in the chair and filled the spot admirably. The de- votional ' section was given, by Mrs. Barr (Scripture), Mrs. Belair (prayer), Mrs. Harding (topic) and Mrs. Fishley (reading).' Reports and more reports were the order of the night. Here are some jottings -- Treasurer's report showed us to be still solvent and with .a fair balance... The fruit- flower, layette and manse committees are all function- ing well, but all said they needed some money. It was voted to them, The visiting" committee made 39 calls and the social girls planned 13 lunches for various occasions but neither group asked for cash. " The report of the supply committee told of 28 quilts, 542 lbs. of used .clothing, 3 layettes and other items ship- ped to different missions, and our corresponding sec- retary 'is still busy sending cards and letters. Mrs. Fishley was appoint- ed to take the place of Mrs. Butt on the visiting copmit- tee and a junior team (Mrs. Greenbank Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Kerry have returned home after enjoying a trip to Flori- da. They called on Mr. and Mrs. E. Hook and Mr. & Mrs. Harold Kerry. i The Foster family enjoyed a dinner and social 'time in the hall on Sunday. We wish Mrs. Ralph Dusty a speedy recovery and hope she may return home from Port Perry hospital soon.' The Greenbank 4-H girls and leaders attended achieve- ment day last Saturday in the Uxbridge High School. Miss Marion Couperthwaite tlreceived her Ontario County achievement certificate. Mr. & Mrs. Don Real and boys, Mr. and Mrs, Ross Real and family, Mr, & Mrs. Wm. Stone and family and Mr. & Mrs. Fred Real enjoyed a dinner at the Werratal to honour Mr. F. Real on his 70th. birthday. Seagrave Barr and Mrs, Zoletz will help by visiting the younger residents, The usual spring tea was approved and a committee appointed. The 3 units as of last year will remain the same but in '69 anyone inviting a new member can - have some chance of getting that per- son in their group. The allocation of $225. for what used to be the M. & M. was accepted. After much digging and borrowing '4 ladies found their birthday pennies. They were Mrs. Nicholls, Mrs. Hurst, Mrs. Keen and Mrs, Clements. The amount averaged out to exactly 59c. each. Not bad Eh! Each lady is expected to bring an article or articles for a layette fo the Feb. meeting. After a. while we had lunch. The social season has op- 'ened for Mr. and Mrs. J. Mac- Taggart. On Monday even- ing Mr. and Mrs, A. Bruce and Mr. and Mrs. Eagleson of Port Perry were dinner guests. On Wed. for lunch they had Mrs. J. MacGillvray, Mrs, Jack MacEacheran and Mrs. E. Cuthbert of Kirkfield and on Sat. Mrs. Geo. Ewen of Oshawa visited them. Mr. F. Watson is home again from hospital but will have to alternate between his bed and a wheel-chair for a while. He is slowly improving. On Sun. night Mr. B. L. Wanamaker accom- panied by his wife, Mrs. Nod- well, Mrs. Moon and Mrs. Clements visited Frank at West Hill. There is Consiierang flu around but so far as we know it is just the Seagrave strain.
