"highly District Governor Ron Wismer (centre), DISTRICT GOVENOR SPEAKER AT MEETING Lions Club Install Two New Members District Governor Ron Wismer told the members of the Port Perry Lions Club he brought greetings from the International President, David Evans at the régular meeting held at Club Annrene Mon- day night. The Governor paid the club an official visit and spoke highly of the work Port Perry Lions had accomplished dur- ing 31 years. A number of interesting aspects not known to the membership was brought to light during Mr. Wismer's interesting speech. Lions International is the only service organization seating an ambassador in the United nations, he told the members present. When the organization was formed in 1946, Lions International was asked to appoint a member to sit in with all the nations. repre- "sented. Due to the fact, Lions is a truly international organiz- ation it was able to, on two occasions, assist in limiting the wars between Isreal and | the Arab nations. He suggested that a club should be operated as a busin- ess. Inventory should be taken the same asin any other busin- ess, an assessment should be made how much the club is worth. And the club is worth only as much as the. members put into the life of it, he ; said. Last year, Mr. Wismer said, Lions International had 127,000 new members join clubs all over the World, but the net gain was only 23,000. This was due to the fact members dropped out, many becuase they lost interest in their clubs. Gordon Goode introduced the speaker, and Arnold Roach extended the members thanks, for the interesting speech. Two new members, Norm Middleton and Joe Podres were accepted and installed during a ceremony at the conclusion of the meeting. ROXY THEATRE (90.4: [ole] EY ROKK] Wed.-Thurs.-Fri.-Sat.
