He has a breed- ing herd of 100 sows, and feeds off all pigs weaned. This amounts to around 1500 a year. He stressed the import- ance of sanitation in the control of disease. He also emphasized the importance of feeding well balanced rations and getting the hogs to market at proper weight. > Mr. Eldred Aiken, Past President, Ontario Hog Prod- ucers' Marketing Board, cong- ratulated the Ontario County Hog Producers for a sound promotion program. He explained the new hog grad- ing regulations. He pointed out that considerable money had been spent by the Board: during the year on a Swine Disease Research Project. He favoured the principle of one farm organization; it must speak for all farmers and must be well financed by compul- sory deduction. Mr. Keith Weeden, a mem- ber of the Provincial Hog Producers' Association, stated that scholarships had been granted during the year to one student -at each of the four Colleges of Agricultural Technology in the province. The Pork Promotion program is being carried on. It is the goal of the Canadian Federat- ion to bring up a new gener- ation of people who do not smoke, and who will therefore be spared the sickness, disabil- ity and death that may result from cigarette smoking. The campaign could be the greatest life- saving venture of all time. It is in reality al "Crusade Against Children Smoking". Parents do not realize that today the average child starts to smoke at age twelve, and some have been known to start as early as age six. It is also a well known fact that the younger a child starts, the greater the danger of lung cancer, heart disease and emphysema.
