0" a PORT PERRY * STAR x BANTAM -- Novice All- Friday evening saw the beginning of first round play off for the Carlyle Mc- Gill trophie. West Rouge vs. Port Perry and Brooklin vs. Uxbridge. ; Port Perry boys again wanting to do-honour to the town came out in the first period to show the opposi- tion who was the best. - Sean Taylor scored the first two goals and Gordon Scott the third making a very impressive period. West Rouge just could not get by the strong defensive work of the home town boys. The second period saw a relaps of the team and West Rouge scored four unanswer- ed goals and had the local team hanging on to their boot straps and wondering what kind of "pep pills" the West Rouge team were given. In the third period Port Perry had come to life again, due no doubt to a little ad- dressing from their coach Mert McKee. A two way game ensued and David Hor- ton scored for Port but alas it was short lived with West Rouge scoring to take the lead again. Port boys trying their best could not seem to penetrate the West Rouge defence un- til the dying moments. of the third period, when Timmy Ashbridge with his booming slap shot tied the score, thus salvaging a tie in their first Star Series important game, Port Perry 5, West Rouge * * * Second game between thes two teams on Sunday again proved that both teams are a sevenly matcher as two peas in a pod. The many spectators that drove to Stouffville to see this hockey game were treat. ed to the finest hockey that only ten year old boys could give, First Period Port Perry coming on like tigers playing a read heads up game. At the three min- ute mark Timmy Ashbridge scored for Port Perry. For the rest of the period it was a two way game with Barry Heard in Goal for Port keep- ing West Rouge off the score sheet. Second Period Again a very strong defen- sive game with no quarter given. Port Perry had one of their boys go to the sin bin because he thought you could play leap frog and the referee dit not agree. Port Perry picked up three penalties. and West Rouge getting one. But neither team could score. Port Perry winning 1 to 0. The third game will be played in Port Perry Friday Night at 7:45 pm. Annual School Ice Camival The Winter Carnival proved to be a great success. Because this was the first year Port High has had a carnival, the job of planning and directing was especially difficult. Carol Anton of Grade 12 was in charge of this and really made the Carnival a success. To show our appreciation for the fine job she made of this project, Carol was given a large bouquet of flowers and made an honourary member of the Student Council. One of the. main events of the carnival was the crowning of our Snow Queen, Nancy Dowson, who received a large bouquet of flowers similar to Carol's. A few other main events were the pancake-eat- ing contest, which was won by Denis Symes, Grade 11, who ate 17% pancakes in 16 min- utes, and the class snow sculpture contest, which was won by the igloo from 11F, The Grade 13 boys, dressed comically as women succeeded in defeating a team of teachers in a game of floor hockey. This game, which was played mostly with a tennis: ball proved to be hilarious and was one of the highlights of ~ Thursday afternoon. The Valentines Dance after the Carnival, which was spon- sored by the Winter Carnival Committee and headed by Karen Toban and Marlene Ives was also a success. The Ladies Curling Feb. 11, Tuesday G.
