H, Cornish Pub- lic School was held at the local arena on Tues., Feb. 18, 1969. Alarge group of friends and parents were.on hand to witness the costunie parade, skating races and a broom ball game between the Grade 8 students and the teachers. Considerable time and ef- fort was put forth by parents, students and teachers in or- der to make the day success- ful. The gym was gayly decorated with a sea-shore style to correspond with the theme -- "The Sea". The main highlight of the dance was the crowning of the Queen and Princess. Final- ists for Queen were: Diane Lowly, Janis Williams, Mel ody Wilson, Carol Creighead, Alice Vanderheide & Leanne Ballard, and finalists for Princeses were: Sandra Enge Sue - Anne DeHaas, Beverly Short, Donna Ballard, Nancy Dowson, and Diane Fisher. Melody Wilson of Grade 12 won the title of Queen and Donna Ballard of Grade 9 was chosen Princess. Music was supplied by "The Caval- liers", a group from Oshawa. Port Perry placed 8th in HILLTOP D Tournament held here last Saturday, with a total of 32 points. The team from Ban- ting Memorial High placed first with a total of 110 pts. Second place was won by the team from Parry Sound with 103 points, and third was won by Orillia District High School, with 51 points. On Saturday, Feb. 22, the Grade 9 Girls Basketball team went to Sutton where they competed in a tourna- ment there. The girls play- ed 3 games against Brock. Sutton and Uxbridge. Al- though they played well, the team was defeated by Ux- bridge and Sutton, but won over Brock. Scores were as follows: Port Perry 20, Uxbridge 27 Port Perry 11, Sutton 17 the GBSSA. Wrestling Port Perry 6, Brock 4. Novice All THIRD GAME First Period: This being a do or die for West Rouge the boy's really put everything into it. But John Kane assisted by Sean Taylor put Port Perry on the score board first. Port Perry lead was short lived as Mike Meeker for West Rouge evened the score having the first period end in a tie. Second Period: Philip Cochrane assisted by Gordon. Scott put Port Perry ahead again. With the play Barry Heard for Port Perry and Watts for West Rouge, these: two goalers were very busy. Finally Sean Taylor in a scramble around the net lifted the puck over the goalie to make it three to one for Port Perry. Third Period: After having a rest both teams put on a very deter- mined bid to preserve a win for Port and. West Rouge wanting to get even. minute mark scored for West Rouge. The Port Perry team just could not get the puck out of their own end. Second game at Port Perry Fri., Keb. 28, 7.45 p.m. Port Perry 4 West Rouge 2 : PORT PERRY STAR -- "Feb. 27,1969 - 11 MINOR SOFTBALL PREPARES FOR 1969 SEASON Port Perry and Distreit Minor Softball Association will meet on Sunday night (7.30 at the Arena) to launch the 1969 Softball season. With several new faces on the executive president Vin Walker will look for another great softball season. The 0.A.S.A. softball con- vention in April will be a big item for discussion as several ammendments are in the 0.AS.A. office for the slate in Sudbury. The Squirt series may be changed to round play and eliminate the Squirt Tournament. An am- mendment to make it man- Batory to wear a batter's hel- met in all series Squirt to Midget. The third ammendment is to eliminate the use of a neutral diamond in O0.A.S.A. Inter - Zone Play offs. Teams would have to toss for third toss. The convention in Sudbury is on April 11 - 12 - 13 and a good size delegation is ex- pected to represent Port Perry.
