The Com- mission's first important assignment will be to find a suitable tank truck, agreeable to the Fire Department as well as to the three townships involved. - Secondly, an addition to the fire hall is required, as rec- ommended in the recent survey conducted by the Fire Marshall. Accomodation for training programs and meet- ings is needed, and the prop- osed plan is to build an.addit- ion to the west side of the present building -- approx- imately 48' x 24°'. In order to cut' down on the cost, the fire- men have offered to do most of the interior work them- selves. At present remuneration to the fire men have been based on an hourly rate as far as the two Townships are concerned, while the Village have paid an annual fee. This structure will now have to be changed and it is expected the Townships will also be paying an annual grant to the Ashburn News Sunday, March 23rd at 11.30 a.m. Communion will be obser ved on Sunday April 13th at the regular service. On Sunday April 20th there will be a special commemora- tion service .on the 1st Anni- versary of the opening of our new church. Please . keep these dates in mind. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mit- chell and son Robert, of Deep River visited Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Fisher and Mr. and Mrs. E. Humphrey dur- ing the week. Mrs. Mabel Taylor, of Guelph spent a few days re- cently with Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Gardner. Miss Ada Warren of Tor- onto was a Saturday guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. Ashton. Rev. K. The Winter Vacation week had a number of activities at the Centennial Centre. On Saturday evening March 15 several couples enjoyed the St. Patrick dance to the music supplied by Mr. E. Heron at the piano; Mr. H. Ashton on Violin; Mr. and Mrs. E. Andrew on" guitar; Mr. H. Bath on drums and Mr. H. Percy doing the calls for the square dances. Rec- ords were used for the round dancing. Spot prizes were won by Mr. and Mrs." E, Heron; Mr. and Mrs. A. Hal- sey; door prize went to Mrs. Stickwood. Mr, R. Holder- shaw, of Brooklin played several selections on the har- monica. On Wednesday March 1-th at 8 o'clock Mr. A. Fletcher Dept. of Lands and Forests representative showed a number of interesting films. On Friday evening March 21st the biimonthly euchre was held. High score win- ners were Mrs, Glen Flem- ing and Mr. Nelson Ashton. Consolation prizes went to Mrs. F. Daw and Mr. A. Par- rinder. Mr. Gillham won the door prize. Sturman. For some time there has been a-need for Volunteers to provide social activities and entertainment for the resid- ents of the Homes for Special Care in our community. Rec- ently, Mrs. M.B. Dymond, Director of the Ontario Coun- ty Mental Health Association, met with a group of ladies who had offered their help toward planning a program for these Homes. An Organization formed, known as Friendly Visitors" - ladies and gentlemen, give two hours of their time each week, for the purpose of visiting with residents in the Special Homes, chatting with them, playing games, etc. A monthly social is planned, where all the residents meet together in a Hall and enjoy a really pleasant afternoon. A Christmas Party was held, at which each person was given a gift and music, games, talk- ing, were the order of the aftemoon. A St. Patricks Party was held on Monday after- noon, March 17th, and again this proved a most interesting event not only for the men but for the volunteers as well.
