Bill Smiley, "Ting" Participate In OWNA Golf Tournament Participating in the Ontario Weekly Newspaper Associat- ion golf tournament Friday, at Foxhead Golf and Country Club, Uxbridge were some 30 publishers and business associates of the weekly press. Among these were two - well known (by name) contributors to the Port Perry Star, Bill Smiley and Merle Tingley better known as "Ting": Mr. Smiley a former newspaper Publisher himself began writing his column "'Sugar and Spice" while publishing "Wiarton Echo" in Wiarton, Ontario, a number of years ago. He has since turned to his original profession, teach- ing, and heads the English Department at Micon High School, Midland, Ont. "Ting" is staff cartoonist on the London Free Press in London, Ont., but contributes some _of hisexcellent cartoons to about 30 Ontario weekly news- papers. (See his cartoon on the editorial page.)
