al ---- em Tak ? Larry Watson, grade 13 student of the Port Perry High School, cadet major and commander of the sghool's cadet corps recently returned from a six weeks trip to --dJamaica. Larry was one of 27 out- standing cadets picked from all over Canada for the train- ing of Jamaican high school boys in the various phases of cadet training... ' He found the Jamaican boys co-operative, friendly and _keen to learn, but a bit lazy, especially during the hot- test part of "the day. "It's customary for Jamaicans to slow down 'and have a rest when the sun is glowing at its peak over the island," Larry said. It wasn't all army training during the six weeks for the young Canadian cadets. Dur- ing time off, the boys enjoyed mountain climbing, surfing, and other types of recreation. "Jamaicans in general were hospitable, particularly when they heard we were Canad- ians", Larry said. "We visited the Governor- " General's residence, and were ' Port Pari High School Cadet ° Chosen To Instruct Jamaicans entertained for dinner at the home of the High Commis- sioner to Canada, and enjoyed a swim in his. private pool," Larry said. The boys were taken on a sight seeing trip of an Alcan aliminum plant, the" largest in the World, and had dinner with some of the officials of the plant following the visit. 4 To be picked as a member of the group of 27 cadets is quite an honour to Larry and Port Perry High School. Prior to the selection, the boys had to qualify as master cadets. This involved thorough tests in all phases of cadet training, such, as rifle drill, shooting, map and compass reading, etc. Epsom continued Mr. and Mrs. Barry Bushell and girls of Roxborough P.Q. were with her parents Mr. & Mrs. H.
