The October Meeting of the Afternoon U.C.W. was held in the Church Parlour on Wed., Oct. 1st at 2 p.m. Mrs. Diamond convenor of the group in charge opened the meeting with a' poem and short prayer. The Scripture taken from Deut. 8 V. 12-30 was read by Mrs. Beare. Hymn 577 was followed by the Theme on Thanksgiving read by Mrs. Roy Leask. Col- lection was received and de- dicated. Mrs. Diamond re- viewed a chapter from the Study Book on China dealing with conditions and hard- ships as experienced by the natives. Hymn 579 closed the worship service. Mrs. Phoenix presided for the business welcoming the members and thanking the group in charge. She also commented on the thoughts brought out in the Thanks- giving theme. The minutes were adopted as read by sec- { V-- 'retary Mrs. Beaton. 16 mem- bers answered the roll call. Mrs. Abernethy reported for "Stewardship committee. In the absence of the pres- ident and the secretary through illness, the offices were capably filled by Mrs. Roy Lane and Mrs. Ron Bray respectively. Mrs. Lane opened the meéting with an autumn poem. Mrs. Price, Mrs. Peggy Fowler and Mrs. George David- son conducted the worship service. Following the offering and the reading of the minutes, Mrs. Lane thanked everyone for the help given in catering. during the summer and at the Ontario Hydro Demonstration Evening. © A motion was approved that notes of thanks be sent to the Ontario Hydro and Richard's Beauty Salon for the donation of prizes. A reminder was given of the forthcoming 'Ida Burns Night" to be sponsored by units 7 and 8. The general meeting is to be held on October 14 in connection with the teen- agers of the area. Guests at the meeting" will Big Canoe from Georgina Island and several of the Indian teen-agers. A question and answer period between guests and members will be an interesting part of the evening. Thompson, Western University visited grandparents W.J. Mitchell on Sunday.
