A joint undertaking of the Province of Ontario and of six munici- palities in the south of Ont- ario County and four in the southwest of Northumber- land-Durham, 0.A.P.A.D.S. is probably the most compren- sive study of its kind ever undertaken anywhere. Combining the design of new regional government ma- chinery with long-range plan- ning of economic develop. ment, land use, transporta- tion, municipal services and financial resources, OAPADS will marry sound, integrated planning and effective imple- mentation. Two concentric areas are being studied, an intensive study area by the whole ea Planning And Development Study study team, and a more ex- tensive territory by the re- gional government compon- ent. The area under intensive study comprises the ten spon- soring municipalities referr- ed to above; but the govern- mental region which will fin. ally be proposed could be either larger or smaller than this intensive study area. Consequently, municipalities, organizations, and individu- als not only throughout the above counties, but in adja- cent areas of Metro Toronto, York, Simcoe, Muskoka, Vic- toria and Peterborough may be directly or indirectly af- fected by the outcome, and should be informed of the procedure which the study will follow.
