C1 LPORT PERRY * STAR % SPORTS Minor Hockey News TUESDAY, NOV, 25th Port Perry vs. Newcastle at Port Perry Cy Wilson's Mustangs de- feated Newcastle 4-2 in a game which saw the Mus- tangs display complete puck control. In the first period there was no scoring and no penalties. Port outshot New- castle 53 in a period filled with blueline rushes. In the second period Rick Evans opened the scoring at 2:56 with a goal on a pass from Grant McLaughlin at the time Newcastle was a man short. Newcastle took but 36 seconds to tie thé score at 1-1.on a goal by Harris. Later in th period Newcastle took the lead on a goal by Thompson at 13:00 even with both teams short- handed. There were 7 pen- alties in the period, 4 for Newcastle and 3 to Port. However Port outshot the vi- . sitors 9-8. In third period Port Perry came out very strong and it w was their period all the way. ¥ i With both teams shorthanded Brent Heard scored from Danny McCartney and Roger Holtby at 2:45. Just 1:14 later McCartney 'clicked to put the Mustangs ahead 3-2 on a pass from Dave Bour- geois. Roger - Holtby also collected an assist on this tally. Throughout the period Port hemmed Newcastle in but could not score again until there was but 28 seconds left when Paul Kane wrapped it up with a goal, assisted by Ken Nightingale. There were 9 penalties in the period, 6 by Port and 3 to Newcastle, bringing the total penalties to 9 for Port and 7 for New- 0asle. Perry Beare Motors Bantam's controlled the play throughout the game with the line of Glenn -McCoy, Andy Litt and Bill Van Camp striking fear in Pickering goaltender with rush after rush, 1st Period--Port got on the scoreboard at 3:51 with G. McCoy scoring on a pass from Shawn Lackie. At 15:09 'Glenn clicked with his sec- ond of four tallies. he even. tually made with Bill Van Camp assisting, at the time both teams were a man short and these were the only pen- alties of the period. 2nd Period -- Port Perry once again held a slight edge in play as they rushed ahead three to nothing. with Glenn McCoy completing his hat- trick assisted by Rick Pros- ser. Port had 2 penalties to 1 for Pickering. 3rd Period -- Port Perry started the scoring off early in the third with Andy Litt scoring at 2:15 from Gleen McCoy and then at 6:03 G. McCoy tallied his fourth of the night to make it 5-0. McAle then managed to get Pickering on the scoreboard. only to have Dave Jackson increase it to 8-1 on a pass from Jamie with both teams short handed. At 8:28 Shawn Lackie completed the scoring with a goal assisted by Randy Prosser. Final score 7-1. Scott put the visitors ahead 1.0 an well executed play. . 3rd Period -- The final period was highlighted by re- peated end to end rushes by both teams with the first goal coming at 7:50 when Glen Geer passed to B. Fer- gusson who. then shot the puck in 'the _ Uxbridge end and Ken Irvine beat one Ux- bridge man to the puck, deked another and then back- 'handed a shot past Don Card to tie it at one apiece. } Immediately following this play it took Uxbridge but 57 seconds to once again take the lead on a goal by Clark. 'At 9:58 Port bounced back when Roger Moase scored from 30 ft. out on a pass from Glen Sweetnian, when Port had a man advantage. Each team picked up 3 pnen- alties in this period. Final score was 2-2, LEGION ALL-STARS The Legion All Stars have been waging a successful campaign so far gin this "==®| young hockey season with four wins, one loss and one tie. een Their first meeting result- ed in a 50 win over West Rouge. Then the Legion boys dropped a game to the Ajax Pee-Wees 5-3, the last goal being scored when they pulled the goal tender in an effort -to tie the score. -Stouffville gave the Legion boys a real tussle which re- sulted in their only tie." The next. three games were all won by the Legion Pee Wees. They defeated Markham 3-2, Pickering 4-3 and Uxbridge 80. So far the team has exhib- ited fine checking ability and good goal tending.
