It is the first revision in rates in eight years. A member of council said the increases would cost the county about $16,000. more than was paid out last year. However, it was stated the business of council in 1969 was done more expeditiously. than in 1968 with the result that this year's expenditure will be about the same as that: in 1968. Council, without debate following a closed committee of the whole session, agreed to pay Warden Timbers $9,000 per year. In addition he. will be paid mileage for each. day travelling to and from council or committee sessions at the rate of 12 cents per mile as well as other expenses incident to the discharge of his official duties. In the past council mem. bers received $20 per day & 10 cents a mile travel allow- ance. The decision means members will receive $30 per day and 12 cents per mile for council and committee attendance. {oD @ 4 TINT 9).4:123] ne] Mon. and Tues. Board Criticized At County Council The Ontario County Board 'of Education is not too popu- lar with county residents, two county council members im- plied at last session. The members criticized board officials for refusing to authorize the closing of schools when a blizzard swept the northern areas re- cently. Reeve Edward Oyler, Reach Township, said officials had refused to support a sugges- tion by school principals that the schools close at noon due to the storm. As a result, he said, bus runs could not be made and students had to be billeted near the schools, This re- sulted in complaints from parents, Reeve John Dancey, Brock Township, agreed. He said his township had been prepared to have 1's four plows precede the schod! buses but the decision not t. close the schools early caus ed township employees f¢ veto the whole operation. ay a
