16 - PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, April 30, 1970 Prin PRINCE ALBERT Mrs. L. Beacock Sunday afternoon, April 19th, was the occasion of the annual Sunday School anni- versary. Two of the teach- ers Mrs. B. Smith and Mrs. T. Hodgins greeted the many parents and friends - from neighboring areas and local folk who in all, practically filled the pews of the sanc- tuary. At the commencement of the service Supt. Mrs. M. Pugh presided at the pulpit, voicing a welcome and ex- Albert tended a hearty appreciation to all who helped make the service a success. Following the first hymn two portions of scripture were ably rcad by Miss Gladys Bent. Mapor- ity of the choir space was occupied by youth who were most generous and enjoyable in their vocal selections. A great deal of praise is due two ladies Mrs. Sandison and Mrs. Andrews for their train- ing and directing this body of singers. All music was accompanied by organist Mrs. B. Snelgrove. Hodgins, also following, two more S.S. teachers, Mrs. Dantzer and Mrs. Dorothy Hope who took up the offer- ing. At this time a foimer vill- age girl (Mildred - Martyn) Mrs. Jas. Nokes of Oakwood was introduced as the guest speaker who humbly related a most fascinating subject, "The Fruits of Friendship", which proved a delight and inspiration to young and old. The minister Rev. M. Reeves stressed he too had enjoyed Mrs. Nokes message and thanked her on behalf of the congregation and him- self. A very good delegation were present at Port Perry anniversary last Sunday and enjoyed the entire service. Several also present at the Japanese program and a taste of their native foods at Man- chester church recently. Mrs. Ben Smith played hostess for the April meeting of 'the U.C.W. with sixteen ladies present. Mrs. B. Snelgrove vice-pre- sident chaired the. entire business. Following reports from sec- retary and treasurer it was also learned the new addi- tions "carpenter-wise" had been erected in our church RS EE CA EY IEC ANA FX WEA RAY kitchen, therefore the mem- bers have been extra busy with cleaning, painting, the papering ordered and new curtains are in the air -- a complete face-lifting. Every- one's efforts were heartily appreciated. Also a bale to be sent very soon. Mrs. N. Wilson 'announced the purch- asing of the extra supply of dishes. Roll revealed 16 visits. Social convenor Mrs. Smith discussed few pros.and cons concerning inklings of a few future wedding receptions. Several quiltings have also been held at the Smith home. We were happy to have Mrs. Armstrong join our membership list. Our min- ister"s wife Mrs. Reeves kindly offered her home for the next meeting. Following a worthwhile de- votion a dainty lunch ended a pleasant' Tpeeting. U.C.W. president Mrs. T. Hodgins and Mrs. B. Snel- grove recently attended the U.C.W. Executive Meeting of Oshawa Presbyterial which was held in Eldad church. The church elders met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. Vance to discuss their business items and lastly tasty food was served. Misses Sharon and Brenda Sweetman have returned home from a recent long- week (via air flight) visiting their brother Pte. Glenn Sweetman who is stationed in Winnipeg. W. J. Price, B.A. B.D, S.T.M., -'minister of Queen Street United Church, Lindsay, Ontario. This elec- tion followed the presenta tion of the Nominating Com mittee Report given by Rev. P. C. Brown of Oakwood. Also elected to office were Rev. E. W. Todd as Secre- tary, and Mr. C. Taylor, as Treasurer. Conveners were also .ap- pointed as follows: --Ministry Division--Rev. H. T. J Price. {Favourable Ski Conditions Create Biggest Season An unprecedented five- month season gave central Ontario ski areas during 1969- 70 their biggest business fig- ures on record, according to a survey by the Department of Tourism and Information. Highly favorable snow con- ditions provided an excep- tional 22 weekends of skiing most areas, beginning Nov. and ending Apr. 19. Even southern areas of the province enjoyed a remark- able number of 17 good ski- : ing week-ends. : Continued attended the Rodd re-union at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. Tobin of Greenbank on Sunday. Virtually all resorts report a definite upswing in revenue for the season just complet- ed, with several showing particularly * significant in- creases, including Snow Val- ley and Horseshoe Valley, Barrie; Valley Schuss and Twin Hearths, Orangeville; Georgian Peaks, Thornbury; Bethany Ski Club and Devil's Elbow, and Mansfield. With the co-operation of ski areas and all media, the Department again provided detailed reports on snow and weather - conditions through- out the entire period.
