The service was held in the open air on the farm|- of the Lawrence McLaughlins, Nestleton. The occasion was the annual Rogation Service bined parishes. This is an ancient form of service, and in its early form in England of several hundred years ago it was the practice to beat the bounds of the parish. This consisted of a procession of the clergy, choir and people walking around the boundaries of the parish stopping for prayer and praise at various springs, wells, orchards and fields. In its modern form the service is held in one place and consists of hymns, psalms, the reading of Scripture, prayers of blessing and thanks- giving for the fields, seeds and animals of the farms. The music for this year's service was pre-recorded by the choir of the Church of the Ascen- sion and played at appropriate intervals on an amplifying] system with the large con- gregation joining in. The Rev. R.S.Mansfield led the congreg- ation in the opening prayers and confession and Mr. L. McLaughlin read the scripture lesson. The Rector of the Parishes, the Rev. R.C. Rose then invited the children of the congregation to proceed with the clergy to the place where a number of young animals were tethered and here special prayers were offered and thanksgivings made for those who engage in agriculture, the labour of their hands and the beasts] entrusted to their care. An appropriate sermon was then preached by the Rector. At the conclusion of the service about a hundred mem- bers of the congregation adjourned to the parish hall in Blackstock for a most enjoyable Pot Luck luncheon. A combined Thanksgiving Service is planned for October to be held: in the Church of be sorry to learn Mr. J. Smith is a patient in Bow- manville Memorial Hospital. We wish him a speedy re- covery.
