J] PORT PERRY STAR -- Thursday, June 11, 1970 -- 5 ONTARIO WINTER GAMES The first Ontario Winter Games, featuring athletes from across the province, will be held in Etobicoke in December, Premier John Ro- barts announced last week. The Games will be organ- ized and run by the Ontario Department of Education's youth and recreation brangh. Nearly 1,000 young ath]€tes will compete in 16 events during the three-day meet scheduled for December 28- 29-30. The competitions will decide. the make-up of the Ontario team to the Canada Winter Games in Shskatoon six weeks later. Ontario Games events are: badminton, basketball, box- ing, curling, fencing, gymn- astics, hockey, judo, figure & speed skating, skiipg, syn- chronized swimming, table tennis, volley ball, weight- lifting and wrestling. The events will be he'd in 17 . Etobicoke secondary schools and two arenas: t' Albion Community Centre & Etobicoke's Centennial Park. Représentatives ot the Ont- arjo Games will be decided * by a series of regional com- petitions to be held from 'low to November. The Brian Rabb Memorial Trophy was won by the pack for their represent- ation of the "jungle" theme. Port Perry cub packs "A" and "B" also attended the cuboree. "A" pack dressed as gypsies and ""B"" pack represented space. After receiv- ing the trophy Thursday night "C" pack members went inside the Scout Hall where they enjoyed pop and ice cream promised them for winning by A.C.M. Fred Fraser. Thé*band director Mr. Chel- lew voiced high praise to all the talent of the band but KNOTLESS CERTIFIED emphasized one top-knotch member Mr. Neil Holtby who had A most assets and humour excelling himself in this musical field and so congratulations Neil. Last Saturday Mr. and Mrs. B. Snelgrove assisted in transferring Mrs. T. Hodgins Sunday School class to the attractive Centre Island, Tor- onto. This memorable out- ing was strictly based for the class members who had proven co-operative in vari- ous aspects and especially faithful in attendance. There- fore all present had a glori- ous time. Our minister and wife Rev. W. M. and Mrs. Reeves and family enjoyed attending the wedding of their elder son & bride-to-be which took place in Windsor on Saturday. Our sincere best wishes are ex- tended from our midst to the newly married couple. Best of health is wished for Mr. G. Cherrie who un- derwent surgery in- Oshawa hospital. .
