AND THE BAND PLAYED ON: Dianne Panabaker and Jane Stulen, both 16 and both members of the Port Perry High School band, finger a tune on their clarinets as they and other band members performed during the Port Perry Home Show. Throughout the evening the show was on, the high school band attracted large numbers of listeners to each of its performances. Numbers ranged from the light classicals to up-to-date selections. --Photo Bob McDougall ADVERTISE WEEKLY FOR BEST RESULTS - besides a. mere PORT PERRY STAR -- Thurs. June 18, 1970 --- 15 Epsom. News A Few Words of Advice To Father: A woman likes to be truly loved, and to be told so. When well and becomingly dressed, a quiet notice of it is apprec- iated. She likes to realize that she is good for something household drudge. She likes her husband to be thoughtful of her. She likes to be petted occasionally -- but not in public! A word of praise for a nice dinner often compensates for the worry and work of preparat- ion. She wants her husband not to be merely her supporter, but her companion, remember- ing a kind word brings more happiness than an expensive gift -- though gifts are always welcome! Mrs. Arthur Taylor visited with Mrs. Bruce Bailey of Uxbridge on Saturday after- noon. Graduation of Explorers from the Epsom-Utica Group will be held this Friday even- ing at 7:30 p.m. All mothers and friends of the girls are invited to attend. The girls and leaders have worked hard and really deserve your support. Recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Christie and Darlene were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hopkins, Mr. Norman Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Lynde of Ashburn,~Mr. and Mrs. Roy MacDonald and Jeannette of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Christie * Clarke of Sunderland and Mr. Jason Clarkson of Jamaica. Mr. and Mrs. M. Bailey returned home Friday from a tour of the Western Prov- inces. They enjoyed brief visits here and there along the route. Some of those known to most of us were Jim Bailey in Northern Ont- ario, Mr. and Mrs. Sid Kent and family in Manitoba and niece Lois in Calgary. Then Friday evening son Ross left with friends for a week-end in Quebec. There was a full house at Epsom church on Monday evening when friends and neighbours .gathered for a farewell party for Mr. and Mrs. V. Thormin. After a delicious pot luck supper, Mr. Thormin showed cartoons to the children while the men talked outside and the ladies cleared tables etc. Then all gathered and several gifts were presented to Mr. and Mrs. Thormin from the church, the U.C.W. and the Explorer girls. - All gifts were hand crafted even to the rooster and hen for Mrs. Thormin's collection. After "Mutual Admiration Society' speeches all retired to the church auditorium for a devotional service illustrated by beautiful slides thanks to Mr. Thormin for this brief .beautiful service. We do wish Mr. and Mrs. Thormin much happiness and satisfaction with their new work. On Sunday, there was a beautiful memorial service at the Utica Church. Our good friend and former pastor, Rev. Nelson Le Grow, was the guest-minister who forgot his prepared sermon 'or should we sdy had a change of heart and told us how. we might be saddened to think of our loss of dear ones, thinking only of our loss instead of con- centrating on the beauty of the life hereafter gained by those who have gone before. Thanks to Ralph Wilbur and members of the cemetery board for planning this service and the, quartet from Port Perry for their gift of song. I was so happy tobe able to attend the Dance Recital on Friday evening at Port Perry Public School. Pupils of Mrs. Jean Barbour are to be congratulated. Miss Majorette of Ontario, Miss Deane Shaw 'was unable to attend due to illness. Of course our own Epsom Miss was the one we watched most carefully. Darlene Lyons was exceptionally good and we see much improvement. Between acts Debbie Griffin and Nancy Warren entertained with solos and duets. Now I must tell you about the real star of the evening. Her name was Tammy Bar- bour, the three,or is it four year old daughter of Jean. She might have looked like a beautiful china doll but she was all live and loveable and she never missed a trick. May- be a bar or two late but her little baton twirled with the rest and that dear little, "Hi! Daddy" in the middle of a number was just right. We'll be looking for you again next year Tammy. Miss Darlene Lyons and Miss Cathy Whitaker received Exam awards. Each unit requires four years work so we do congratulate these girls and wish them future success.
