But at least it was a dead turkey." ~The longest fare Mrs. Sweetman has had was from Port Perry to just outside Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Apparently, a woman from Pittsburgh had come to this area for her-holiday, and had a car accident. She spent her: entire holiday in the hospital. Her car was wrecked, she had too much luggage to fly - home, and she didn't want to take a train. Mrs. Sweetman recalls that the fare for this trip. was about $120, Mrs. Sweetman started the cab business with a 1949 Mercury. In those days, she says, "I use to trade my cab each yéar, but now it's every "couple of -years, and the depreciation, on the cars is terrible." The company has .three cars now, and each one logs somewhere aver 1,000 "miles in an average week. Insurance rates are a very large expenditure, It- costs * Mrs. Sweetman about $1,800 each year to insure her three cabs. "But we carry $100,000 passenger liability," she adds, "even though we are only required to carry. $50,000. "» Over the years, Mrs. Sweetman has had a few minor . collisions, and a major one a couple of years ago "where 1 was lucky I wasn't killed." If she gets a flat tire, Mrs. Sweetman simply calls a garage. In all her years of driving, she's had to change only two tires herself. Mrs. Sweetman says she has enjoyed being in the cab business, especially meeting so many different and in- teresting people. She sées no reason why any woman can't drive a cab. ~ But there are a few problems, .and one of them is handling the guy who has a few too many drinks.
