However, two straight.losses, 7. - 2 to Beaverton and 5 - 3 to Cannington knocked the team from further conten- tion. Two days later, the Ban- tam's took on their counter- parts from the Port Perry midget loop and edged them by-a 4 - 3 count. On March 21, the team went to Beaverton for an exhibition contest and edged the Song team by a score of Ed Olsen opened the scor- ing minute mark of the first period, and less than two minutes later Hadley' made it 2 - 0 on an unassisted goal. Beaverton scored late in the period to make the score 3 - 1 after twenty minutes. Wac- kett scored what proved to be the winner. - Midway through the sec- ond, Beaverton tied the score, but this was. short "lived as Olsen sent Taylor in alone to make the score 4 - 2. Port Perry Novice team wins There is nothing unlucky about number 13 as far as one Port Perry hockey team is concerned; as last week Dozers win Brian's Bull Dozers ad- vanced to the 'broomball finals against Prince Albert as aresult of a 2 - 0 win over Utica Clubs on Sunday. John Cooper scored what proved - to be the winner at 6:35 of the " second period. Although held an advantage in the play, Ken Nott scored for the Dozers late in the second period to put the game out of reach. Playoffs between Dozers and Prince Albert Rebels get under way next Sunday, and the series will be a best two-out-of-three affair. Tripp Construction Novice skated away with D Class Championship at the 13th annual Lions Novice Hockey Tournament in Brampton. Port Perry has entered a team in this well-known, week long event ®ince its beginning, and this is the first team to win the top honours for Port Perry. There were 15 D Class teams al after the game that tending from centres with less than 4,500 population. 'Port "Perry won the championship game Friday, with a 4 - 3 over Delhi, in front of strong goaltending by Raymond Gibson. This game was a see-saw battle with the score tied after regulation time. In the first overtime period, George Burnett gave Port Perry the victory as he scored after picking up a loose puck. Port: Perry had taken an early 2 - 0 lead on goals by Dennis Franssen and David Canning. Delhi made it 2-1, and then Carey Fellows scored for Port on a ten-foot slap shot. Delhi fought back to tie the score setting the stage for overtime, and George Burnett's winning goal. Coach Bob Parker said made all the difference, and goal-tender Raymond Gib- son was 'chosen D Glass All-Star for his work in the Port Perry nets. ~ Toreach the championship against Delhi, Port Perry won two-game total point series over Walkerton 3 - 2, over Waterford 8 - 5, and over Listowell 10 - 2. The winning effort was recognized Sunday afternoon Ladies Curling Brampton Tournament D Class as the team was treated to a ride on the fire truck, courtesy of the Port Perry, Reach and Scugog Fire Department. This is the first time ever that Port Perry has won at Brampton event. and Lambeth 4. LJ [J Midget Hornets lose two in Ontario play-offs Grant Menzies Hornets travelled to Lambeth on Friday night to play the 1st game in the Ontario finals and were defeated by the . score of 6 to 2. The first period was close checking with Hornets get- ting the only goal. Phinney scored with Campbell as- sisting to take the lead. In the second period _ Lambeth scored with Varey doing the scoring with Re- aume assisting. The game remained that way till the 12:14 mark of the third period when Tennyson scored with Jeffrey and Litt assisting for the Hor- nets. Lambeth came back with five unanswered goals in five minutes to win the game. Penalties in the game were the Hornets 3 HORNETS LOSE THE SECOND GAME Grant Menzies Hornets played at home on Sunday night before a very good crowd and were defeated 9 to 5. In the first period the Hornets couldn't get un- tracked and Lambeth took a 3 to 0 lead. In the second period Lambeth came out and scor- ed 3 more before the Hor- nets hit the score sheet with 4 goals. Jackson scored with McCoy & Litt assisting, then Litt unas- sisted. Then Christie scor ed with Phinney and Camp- bell assisting. Then Jack- son scored his second of the game with Van Camp assisting. Lambeth then scored their seventh goal before Campbell scored with Christie assisting, to end the period 7 to 5 in favour of Lambeth, The third period Lam. beth scored 2 more goals to win the game. The Hor- nets will have to stop tak- ing the foolish penalties if they want to beat this team. Penalties were Hornets 12 and Lambeth 10.
