(705) 357-3270 of gas line by June 1st A representative of the Consumers Gas Company attended the Council meeting of April 11 to enquire about the correct procedures to he followed in order to obtain a permit for the installation of 8as mains in Port Perry. Mr. John Graham" of Consumers explained to Council that gas mains are usually installed three feet towards the centre-line of the road from the lot line, at a depth of three to four feet. He said wherever possible mains are installed off the pavement, and he assured Council it is company policy "to repair property and roads tothe same condition as prior to construction of the mains. Mr. Graham said his company hopes" to have survey done by the end of this month; with" construction C of C plans summer activities Richard Drew, chairman of the Summer Events Com- "mittee of the Port Perry Chamber of Commerce at the last meeting of the executive announced extensive plans for a three day program in August. Tentatively the program will be a Merchants Street Market, on Friday and Saturday August 11 and 12, Midway in the Park, enter- tainment on Queen Street, Giant Barbeque, regatta, softball games and a big dance in the Arena on Saturday. 2 ens The Sunday August 13 program will mainly be the midway inthe Park and horse races at the Fair Grounds. Other events such as fiddlers' contestand a bicycle rally have also been sug- gested. Scugog Grace UCW The April meeting was opened by the president Joan Aldred presenting a reading "miracle of Migration' fol- lowed by the singing of the hymn "All The Way My Saviour Leads Me." and the repeating of the 'Lord's Prayer" in unison. The Roll. was answered by fifteen members all warmly welcomed and Mrs. Joan Smith a visitor. The devotional portion of the evening was opened with the theme being 'Hope of Easter" taken by Mrs. Eliza Fralick. Joan Aldred pre- sented an Easter cross-word puzzle which put the ladies to work with bible references. A reading "God Leads A Pretty Sheltered Life' was read by Joan Aldred. Joan also thanked the ladies for their contributions and help for the luncheon and the evening of pictures. The financial report showed $379.68 in the group's favour. The Hospital Fair will be held on May 27th and aprons, knitting, pot holders etc. would be a welcome con- tribution for this event, as well as articles for the nearly new table. } It'was decided to cater to the Windgrove wedding on June 17th. $ Plans to have a "Special Day Calendar' given to all the members as a special project, to help involve the . members that are not able to attend meetings regularly. A mud cat supper in May was also discussed and Mable Sweetman was asked to get further information. To close the meeting skip' contest was given by Joan Aldred. The collection was taken and hymn 545 was sung and the Benediction was repeated and lunch served. possibly to starty as early as June 1. ~ Council told 'Mr. Graham that the Village must give approval before any gas mains can be installed. It was agreed that Con- sumers Gas will submit their plans - to the Village con- sultants, Totten, Sims, Hubicki, for, approval, and receiving this would get Council approval. It is not known yet what streets in the Village will be serviced by the gas mains, but a line will be coming into the Village from Prince Albert via Simcoe Street, and presumably will run down Queen Street to the business section of Port Perry. Correction In last week's STAR, we mentioned the coach of Beare Motors Bantams as being Larry Lee. Wayne Venning is the coach, and Larry Lee isthe manager of the hockey team. Manchester 4-H Club On Tuesday, March 28, the Manchester Naughty Nitters met at the home of Shelley Williams. The 5th meeting was opened with the 4-H pledge. OnMay 6th, weare having a fashion show to show-off our 4-H Sportswear. Our Achievement Day is on May 27, 1972 at 1:00. _Wediscussed how tosetina sleeve and how to put in a hem. For the rest of the meeting all the members worked: on their garment. The next meeting was held on Thursday, April 6th, in the United Church basement. Roll Call was "Ideas for the exhibit". We are to present atAchievement Day. Marg- aret Wanninkhof and Nancy Webster will write the speech for Achievement Day and Beverly Rudkin will say it. We discussed the fashion show for Achievement Day and also how to put on buttons andhow tomake button holes. Carol Aird demonstrated to ushowtoputinan elastic fora waistband and such. Nursing Home News We welcome to the staff Mrs. Eleanor Holroyd, R.N. who joined us last Friday. Eleanor is a graduate of the Hamilton and District Hospi- tal, class of 1970 and presently makes her home in Caesarea. We had a pleasant visit from Mrs. Gladys Thompson and Mrs. Ruth Wilson from Blackstock, United Church. Rev. R.C. Rose visited the Home on Wednesday last and served Holy Communion to- the Anglican residents. Jimmy Wyatt was hospita- lized in the Port Perry Hospital most of the week. He isbackatthehomeand we are happy toreportis now feeling much better. Also in the Port Perry Hospital is Mr. Stan Storey whom we hear is progressing satisfactorily. New residents to the home during the week were Miss Mary Forfar of Greenbank and Mr. Walter Knightof R.R. No. 1, Port Perry. Leaving the home were Mrs. Emily Newman and Mrs. Elizabeth Gillespie. BAP iNet Mrs. May Lloyd celebrated her 80th birthday with her family in the dining room on Sunday. Congratulations and many more happy birthdays. Mrs. Lloyd, Mr. Wm. Grey, Mr. Glen Hood and Mr. John Doupe were home for the weekend. Mrs. Lola Leadlay is getting excited this week "as her son Oswel Leadlay is coming from Florida to visit. Prince Albert 4-H Club The fifth meeting of the Prince Albert Pals was held on Saturday, April 8, at Mrs. Pugh's home. The_meeting was opened with the Lord's Prayer and Marie Holtby read the min- utes of the last meeting. We chose Dianne Panaba- ker tobeour commentator for Achievement Day which is Saturday, May 27. It will be at the Uxbridge Secondary School. U.C.W. The April meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Arthur Fielding. Twelve members were present. The méeling . ..The. Mrs. Kingstone took charge of the business opened by reading a poem "Believe" spring is on the way. Final arrangements were made for the "Spring Tea' and "Bake Sale' to be held April 19th at 2:30 p.m. The leader's training school will be held April 26th in Kingsview United Church, Oshawa. Mrs. Fred Lamb will have the next meeting on May 4th. This was brought to a close by repeating the U.C.W. benediction. Mrs. Fielding and Mrs. T. The min- utes of the previous meeting were read and approved, no outstanding bills received. It was reported that sev- eral Institutes had 75th Anniversary Celebrations. A report was made on the Ontario Celebrations. A re- port was made on the Ontario Celebration held at the Royal York, Toronto in February. Also the luncheon at Mrs. Dixon's (area President) whose guest was Mrs. Farquharson A.C.W.W. President. Plans were made for the District Annual to be held in the Myrtle United Church on May 25.
