Two hundred and twenty- five parents found out what it is like to be "Back to School" on April 16th at the Port Perry High School. School started for these interested parents at 7:20 P.M. with registration in their 'Home Room" and for the next two and one quarter hours they proceeded through a 'nor- mal" school day. A prerequisite for the evening was that the parents" were given a copy of the timetable which their daugh- ter or son follows each day. The parent then followed this time-table for the fifteen minute periods stopping one - period for a coffee break in the cafeteria. The teachers in each room either prepared a mini lesson of 12 minutes or discussed broad outline and objectives of the course with parents. This was the first time an evening such as this was held in the High School and it seemed to be thoroughly enjoyed by parents and teachers. Many parents came away 'having learned something at school, and certainly now have a clearer __under-standing_of the daily routine their. students experience. Mr. Grant MacDonald, Principal of the High School indicated that since the evening was made so suc- cessful by both parents and teachers that the "Back to School' night could very well develop into an annual event at the school. A poem was read "The Whole Earth Sings". Psalm 104:1-24 was read, followed with a few comments on the Psalm. Everyone join- ed in the singing of "How Great Thou Art". A read- ing by Mrs. D. Ashton "Take Time to See" follow- ed by showing some colored slides on nature, depicting God's glory in the different seasons of the year. Mrs, H. Ashton read "I Shall Pause". The meeting clos- ed with the singing of the hymn 519 "He Leadeth Me". Mrs. E. Heron closed with - prayer. The May meeting will be at the home of Mrs, Wm. Gardner.
