Cubs visit Camp Samac ~ Twenty boys from 'the Port Perry C Pack Cubs spent theweek end campingat Lake Samac. The group left the Scout Hall Friday evening, and with the unfurling of the Canadian flag camp was, officially opened the follo- wing morning. During the day, the Cubs explored the surrounding countryside, 'went 'on "hikes andworked on various crafts. On Saturday evening, the Cubs managed with some difficulty to build and light four campfires, over which marshmellows were roasted. A variety of games and a sing-song were held through- out the evening. ~~ On Sunday afternoon, the boys broke camp and headed 'for home. Intheabsenceof Akela Stan Ploughman, Mrs. Audrey Hall went along with the Cubs as camp cook, and the boys express their appreciations. Dr. M. B. Dymond was guest speaker April 22 at a potluck supper held by Port Perry B pack Cubs. Close to 100 persons were in atten- dance. B Pack cubs presented Dr. Dymond with two scrap books which they had worked on during the winter. One of the books .is on snowmobile safety, and the other on pollution. On receiving the books, Dr. Dymond promised the cubs he would pass the books on the ministers at Queens Park. Dr. Dymond had words of praise and good wishes for the cubs, and he made _presentations .of stars and badges. Following the supper, two films were screened; one on the Port Perry Centennial celebrations, and the other on the Canadian National Ex- hibition, by day and by night. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, April 26, 1972-13 Spring break-up late If one uses the breakup and disappearance of the ice on Lake Scugog as an indicator that spring has really ar- rived, it appears as though it may be a little while yet. Last year, the ice went out on April 21, but as of the 24 of April this year there was still lots of ice in the bay at the - south end of the lake. Although "there were a couple of very warm days - last week, cool temperatures during the last few days have .not helped to speed up the melting of the ice.
