Opening Monday in Hali- 1971 County rates up for Port Perry As a result of a successful appeal by Pickering Town- ship to the Ontario Municipal Board for a variation in that Township's 1971 Ontario ° County apportionment rates, the municipalities of Port Perry, Reach and Scugog have all been billed extra for their respective 1971 rates. For Reach, the increase will amount to $2,007;. for 'Port Perry the amount will be $1,006; and for Scugog $571. All other municipalities in "Ontario County Have had their 1971 rates increased except Pickering Township, Brock and Scott Townships. The appeal by Pickering was granted by the OMB on May 12 and because of it the Township will reeive a rebate of $29) or a decrease from 30.92 to 29.97 percent of the total amount, paid to the County by the' . Municipalities. The decrease for Brock amounts to $2,435 and $684 for Scott. The other municipalities, are being billed to make up these differences. Monday night blaze guts 2-storey Myrtle residence A fire late Monday. night has gutted a home owned by Mr. J. Manderson of Myrtle Station. Units from the Port Perry, Reach and Scugog Depart- ment and also from the Whitby Department answe- red the call which was. turned in at about 11:50 Monday night. Firefighters battled the blaze all night with men from the Port Perry Department still at the scene at 7:00 the next morning. The building was des- cribed as an old two-story dwélling, with a tin roof and tin siding, and this hampered efforts by firemen to get at ° the blaze inside. It is thought that the fire started on the ground floor at the back of the house where some coal had been stored. There were no injuries reported. The house is located on the west side of Highway 12, on the Reach-Whitby Line.
