W. Pearce, Blackstock; Mrs. Earl Car- nochan, West Hill and Mrs. Wm. Bell of Lindsay. All were celebrating Lesley's first birthday. * * * On August 15th, Richard Stephens left for Peking, China to participate in the opening of the World's Trade Fair. He is one of nine skaters from Canada performing in an ice show. This ice show was prepared about six weeks ahead of time. They perform daily in two shows for three weeks in China. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Jeffrey of Oshawa were week-end visitors of Mrs. C. C. Jeffrey and Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Slemmon. _ * * * Among the many welcome visitors at the St. John's manse during August were the members of the family, Stewart, and Ann, Shawn and Cori Lyn, from Niagara Falls, where Stewart' has his own program on C.JR.N. each day from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Alistair and Cheryl rolled in later with little Bryce from Brantford where Ali- stair is assistant manager with the Brantford Tire Company. From Glasgow, Scotland there came Miss Joan Hunter who was head nurse in the Victoria In- firmary whose parents were magnificent in their hospi- tality last year when the senior Blacks were on tour. From N.J. Mr. A. Donald- son came with his friends from England making the bond between brothers-in- law stronger. And mem- bers of the Donaldson fam- ily are still coming later to follow others who came earlier. Its been a great month for reunions. * * * The Liberal Association of Ontario Ridings is hold- ing its Annual Corn Roast on Friday September 15th, 1972 from 8:00 p.m., at the home of Mr. Tony Cesaroni Highway #7 between Man- chester and Port Perry. Everyone welcome. * * * Ralph Shaw flew to Thun. der Bay to join Mr. Norman Robinson for a fishing trip while Norm and his family were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cook. They want them so badly, that many flood hit farmers left their balers during precious long-awaited haying weather in order to attend a Dundas County meeting. Corn, spring grains, and livestock farmers were also present. The spirited gathering of more than 150 gave unani- mous support to the Ontario Federation of Agriculture's forgiveable loan proposal. Loans would equal two third of each farmer's crop loss, forgiven 20 per cént yearly over five years. The Crop Insurance Commission underwriters would assess damage. The meeting was called by the Ontario Federation to get feed back on the plan. Farmers from Carleton, Grenville and Dundas at- tended. This is the first of three meetings presenting the OFA plan to farmers in the eastern seven counties. "Why is the provincial government dragging it's feet solong indeclaring this a disaster area?" scowled an anxious farmer. The question was asked often. The Fed- eration has repeatedly said this must be the first step. The action-hungry farmers left the meeting determined to write their demands to federal and provincial mem- bers of parliament.
