-- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, Sept. 6, 1972 Xs Scugog News On Saturday, Janet Read- er and Tammy Freeman returned from a week of camping at Quin-mo-Lac. Over 70 girls were there and all reported a good time, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cawker and family returned Satur- day from a Western trip to Saskatoon, Regina etc. where they visited with relatives and also had the pleasure of fine weather. Last Wednesday, Mrs. Lottie Gill who formerly lived in Nelson Reader's white house visited with Island friends. On Wednesday, we were shocked to hear of Mr. Dave Moore's truck accident which caused a broken neck and ribs. At present Mr. Moore is in a Scarborough hospital and his wife, Lil, is staying with Toronto rel- atives. On Sunday, Rev. Pogue took his missionary reading from 'Mandate" on Ja- maica. It describes an- experiment between the Presbyterian Church of U.S. and the United Church to help the people in their "Look at it this way... breaks down to only 32 Yn a bite." seemingly hopeless life. The result is that- they are learning to help themselves in progress and gaining a pride in their national life. The Bible Study was on "The Tower of Babel'. All thro' the ages 'man' has laboured to make 'a name for himself. We wonder why people have different lan- guages and therefore, have difficulty in communication. The Tower of Babel which was perhaps a ziggurat, or series of superimposed ter- races on which was built a temple, served only to sep- arate the people and confuse them when language was changed. To-day we may be building a tower called Technology but which does not bring us together. A study shows us that the major problem of modern man is loneliness though we are becoming more crowded together. A recommended book worth reading is entitled "Future Shock." Now that September has arrived we must shake ourselves out of our summer pleasures and get back to routine. One project for the "Head" people will be the Turkey Supper on the last Wednesday of September in the "Head" Memorial Church. ¥ : We are disappointed that the "Head" .Cemetery pro- ject has again come to a stand still and completion is still somewhere in the fut- ure. I imagine more pressing problems have set it in the background. This is paper collection month so please gather them up. de Three-day visit to farms, industry in Ont.
